The world felt surreal as Jake sat on the steps outside the school, the last echoes of battle still fading from his mind. His heart was pounding, the enormity of what had just happened finally starting to sink in. He had been akumatized, lost himself to the darkness—and then, somehow, found his way back. But things had changed. As he tried to catch his breath, he noticed a strange weight in his hands. Looking down, he saw they were covered by sleek, black-and-red gloves, just like Shadow the Hedgehog's. His shoes, too, had changed—replaced by futuristic red hover shoes that felt strangely natural as if they'd always been his. He took an experimental step and felt a powerful surge beneath him, his foot hovering just slightly above the ground. Without even thinking, Jake leapt into the air and felt a rush as he spun, moving effortlessly in an arc before landing smoothly back on the ground. His mind buzzed with excitement and confusion, his hands clenching and unclenching as energy pulsed through his body.
Jake: What... what is this? Am I... superhuman now?
Jake wondered, feeling the thrill of his newfound abilities, even as the weight of everything he'd been through settled in his chest. But before he could explore further, a group approached, breaking him from his thoughts. Drew, Liam, Henry, Zoey, and Lia stood before him, their faces filled with a mix of guilt, hesitation, and regret. Behind them, he could see Daisy, the Music Club members, and the Jomies gathering nearby, watching the scene unfold. It was clear they all had something to say, but for once, Jake was the one in control. Drew was the first to step forward, his voice low and hesitant.
Drew: Jake, look... I know we messed up. We said things we shouldn't have. And I—
He swallowed hard, avoiding Jake's gaze.
Drew: I'm sorry.
Liam nodded, his own voice tight with emotion.
Liam: We all are. I didn't think... I just didn't think things would turn out like this. We pushed you too far, and that's on us.
Henry added, his expression one of genuine remorse.
Henry: We made mistakes, Jake. But we still want to make it right, if you'll let us.
Even Zoey, usually so indifferent, looked shaken, her voice softer than usual.
Zoey: Jake, I... I shouldn't have treated you like that. I didn't mean it. We were... wrong.
But Jake's gaze stayed on Lia. She was the only one who had ever shown him any real compassion, even during the lowest points of his friendship with the others. She stepped forward, her expression raw with regret and honesty. But Jake's gaze stayed on Lia. She was the only one who had ever shown him any real compassion, even during the lowest points of his friendship with the others. She stepped forward, her expression raw with regret and honesty.
Lia: Jake, I know what we did was terrible. But I never wanted to hurt you like this. I didn't realize how much pain you were in... I'm so, so sorry.
Jake looked at her, his eyes softening just slightly.
Jake: Lia, you were the only one who ever showed me kindness. You didn't push me away when things got tough, and I appreciate that.
He nodded slowly.
Jake: I forgive you.
A visible look of relief washed over Lia's face, and she gave him a small, grateful smile, clearly touched by his forgiveness. Jake then turned his gaze toward Daisy, who looked at him with worry and regret in her eyes.
Daisy: Jake... I'm so sorry for what happened. I never should have walked away like that. If I could take it back, I would.
He took a deep breath, his voice quieter but full of conviction.
Jake: I forgive you too, Daisy.
The Music Club members watched, a mix of hope and tension on their faces. Hailey, Milly, Sean, Luke, and Zander stepped forward as a group, each one clearly affected by everything that had happened. Zander, usually so tough and unyielding, looked particularly shaken.
Hailey: Jake... I'm sorry. I didn't understand what you were going through, but we should have. I should have.
Hailey's voice was thick with emotion.
Hailey: If we could go back and change things, we would.
Milly: We were wrong to judge you without even giving you a chance to explain. I hope you can forgive us.
Jake let their words settle, the weight of their remorse sinking into him. The anger he had once felt toward them had dulled, replaced by a feeling of acceptance, even if the scars remained.
Jake: I forgive you all.
Jake glanced at Zander, whose face registered shock.
Jake: And yes, even you, Zander.
Zander's eyes widened, a mixture of surprise and relief washing over him. He had never expected forgiveness from Jake—not after everything that had happened. For a moment, it looked like he wanted to say something, but no words came, just a small nod of understanding. But then Jake turned back to the remaining four: Drew, Henry, Liam, and Zoey. His expression hardened, his eyes narrowing as he met their gazes.
Jake: But you four? No. I can't forgive you.
Jake's voice was cold, his expression resolute.
Jake: You guys literally told me you never cared about me. And unlike you, Lia actually showed that she did. Hailey was right about you all—you're toxic. I'm blocking you from my contacts and I never want to associate with you again.
Drew's face fell, the regret deepening in his eyes.
Drew: Jake... please. We didn't mean it. We were just angry—
Jake cut him off, his voice sharp and unyielding.
Jake: It doesn't matter. You turned your backs on me when I needed you most. And no amount of apologies will change that.
He began to turn away but then stopped, looking directly at Drew with a cold smile.
Jake: Oh, and before I go... Zoey's been cheating on you, Drew. Henry, Liam—I told you both about it before, but you all laughed it off, didn't you?
The color drained from Drew's face as he looked at Zoey, who had gone completely silent, her face paling in shock. Henry and Liam looked down, their expressions a mix of discomfort and shame.
Jake: I'm done being a doormat. It's time for you all to deal with your own messes.
With that, he turned on his heel, activating the Chaos Shoes he'd gained from his de-akumatization. A surge of energy pulsed through him, and he skated forward, the shoes leaving a faint red trail behind him as he sped off, leaving the stunned group behind. For a moment, there was silence. Hailey, Daisy, Lia, and the Music Club members watched as he disappeared into the distance, each of them realizing that while they had gotten a second chance with Jake, he was no longer the same person he once was. They would have to earn back his trust slowly, over time. Meanwhile, Drew, Henry, Liam, and Zoey remained rooted to the spot, their guilt and betrayal exposed for everyone to see. And for the first time, they understood the true cost of the hurt they had caused.
