Burnout
Phoebe
"Olivia!" I call out to her.
Appearing in the doorway like a bolt of lightening.
"there is a pink bag with all my medical supplies, can you get it please? And get a damp towel, and a glass of water for me" asking her without taking my attention off of him, I see her run off to do so.
"Ares, I know you're not feeling well but I know you can hear me. I need to know if you'd let me take care of you?" leaning closer, I whisper to him.
"I'm fine, just a little tired" he finally speaks, though, his eyes remain close.
"You have a fever, you can't work like this. You're immune system is weak and vulnerable right now" I protest.
"I've worked like this for the past 20 years, its nothing new. I was just laying down for a few minutes, I'll be fine" his eyes finally open, he shifts as though he's going to get up. To which I push him back down.
"listen here, you dimwit. The last thing I'd want to do is be disrespectful in your home but, I'm not about to sit around and watch you work yourself into grave, when you have daughters to be there for. Got it?" his eyes dart between my eyes and the finger I have pointed at him.
"I like this side of you, its comforting" he mumbles.
"you're not feeling well, meaning you're not thinking straight. So I'm going to ignore what you just said" just then Livvie comes back with everything I asked for.
"dad, are you okay?" she asks him.
"he'll be okay, don't worry. In case it's anything serious I'd advise not doing too much contact. Don't need you guys catching a cold or anything." I reassure her, "thank you, Phoebe, I'm really thankful for this"
"its fine, now go keep Ana company, I'll be down in a bit" nodding before looking over to her dad, who smiles weakly to her before she leaves the room.
"most likely you're suffering from a burnout and as a result of your terrible sleeping habits and appetite, your body is producing to much cortisol, there for making your immune system weakened, making you catch a cold." I rummage through his closet and pick out a simple t-shirt and pants.
Handing it to him, I open my medical bag.
"what's this for?" he ask "take a shower, its a start to your recovery. Now open for me" I imply to the thermometer in my hand, his eyebrows raise.
Fine, we can play that game.
I grab his jaw, opening his mouth and place the thermometer in. going back to my bag, grabbing my stethoscope, I check his heart beat. "deep breath for me" he follows my instruction, his heart beat is fine, slightly irregular but it's okay considering his well-being right now.
Taking the thermometer out and checking, 38.6 degrees C.
"its a low grade fever, but you still need to rest and eat better" flicking on my pen light, looking for small details that can tell me more about his body's state right now and what exactly to aim for.
Taking a deep breath, I try to push aside how nervous his gaze upon me is making me feel. He hasn't taken his eyes off of mine since.
"go shower, it'll help. I'll be back to check on you in a few. Eat your breakfast" I rest the tray on the bed as he waltz over to the bathroom.
Heading back down, I check on Livvie and Ana. Finding them laughing over a bowl of cookie dough.
"Livvie, would you mind if I cook today?" I question.
