Jeongin and Hyunjin were the talk of the school. Known as Sunhigh’s favorite couple, they had been together for over four years. Despite Hyunjin’s cold and often stoic demeanor, he melted around Jeongin, turning into someone only Jeongin—and Jeongin alone—got to see. Sweet, warm-hearted Jeongin, however, was adored by everyone. He was the sunshine that brightened everyone’s day, and while Hyunjin was proud of his boyfriend, there was one small problem: Minho, a senior, who couldn’t seem to keep his eyes off Jeongin.
Minho’s growing interest in Jeongin had always rubbed Hyunjin the wrong way. He noticed the way Minho’s eyes lingered a bit too long when Jeongin laughed or how he’d make any excuse to “accidentally” bump into him in the halls. So, Hyunjin devised a plan to remind everyone—especially Minho—just who Jeongin belonged to.
One sunny afternoon, Hyunjin and his friends were out on the baseball field, tossing a ball around. From the stands, Jeongin sat chatting with a few friends, his smile lighting up his face. Hyunjin couldn’t help but glance over every few minutes, his heart softening each time Jeongin laughed. But the sight of Minho lingering nearby brought him back to his plan.
After a few rounds of throwing and catching, Hyunjin decided it was time. Pretending to miss a catch, he let out a dramatic grunt and clutched his arm, stumbling slightly as his friends gathered around him with confused looks. Within seconds, Jeongin was rushing over, his face painted with worry, his usual sunny expression clouded. “Hyunjin, are you okay?” he asked, his voice laced with concern.
Hyunjin, holding back a grin, looked up at Jeongin with an exaggeratedly weak expression. “I… I think I’ll be fine,” he murmured, reaching out to cling to Jeongin’s hand. His friends rolled their eyes, catching on to the act, but Jeongin was oblivious, too focused on his boyfriend’s ‘injury’ to notice anything else.
Seeing Jeongin’s worried face made Hyunjin’s heart do flips, and he couldn’t resist leaning in a bit closer. “You know what would make me feel better, though?” he whispered, his eyes twinkling mischievously. “If you gave me a kiss, I’d be fine, love.”
Jeongin’s eyes widened, his face turning a brilliant shade of red as he stammered, “H-Hyunjin, we’re in public…” His eyes darted around, aware of the stares from Hyunjin’s teammates and his friends in the stands. But Hyunjin only pouted, leaning his head against Jeongin’s shoulder, his voice dropping to a teasing whisper. “Please? Just one kiss. You’ll make all the pain go away.”
Caught between embarrassment and his boyfriend’s insistent gaze, Jeongin finally gave in. With his cheeks still flushed, he leaned down and pressed a soft, shy kiss to Hyunjin’s lips, his heart racing as their friends erupted in surprised murmurs. When he pulled back, Hyunjin’s face was lit up with a satisfied smile, his gaze filled with adoration that was obvious to everyone around.
And standing a few feet away, Minho’s expression soured as he took in the sight, realizing just how strong the bond was between Jeongin and Hyunjin. There was no question that Jeongin was Hyunjin’s, through and through.
Hyunjin, noticing Minho’s reaction, wrapped his arms around Jeongin’s waist and pulled him closer. He rested his head on Jeongin’s shoulder, still holding him tightly as if to say, This is mine. Jeongin blushed furiously but didn’t pull away, instead leaning into the embrace, feeling safe and warm in Hyunjin’s arms.
And for Hyunjin, the sight of Minho walking away in resignation was just the cherry on top. All he needed was Jeongin, and he’d gladly show the whole world if it meant keeping his sunshine all to himself.
