A/N
Hey!Hope you don't mind a filler chapter, cos I LOVE writing them (Also, sorry if the time of the verbs changes mid-chapter),hope you enjoy itI'm pulled out of a heavy sleep by the shrill sound of my phone ringing
My head throbs, a mix of last night's drugs and too little sleep, and for a moment, I can't remember where I am
Then I see Cook sprawled out next to me, still asleep, the sheets barely covering himI fumble for my phone on the nightstand
The screen flashes "Dad" and my heart clenches a little. I sit up, pulling the covers around me as I answer"Hey, Dad," I mumble, my voice still thick with sleep
"Hey, sweetheart. Did I wake you up?"
"Nah, it's fine. What's up?"
"Just wanted to check in, see how you're doing. Haven't heard from you in a bit."
I smile, even though he can't see it. "Yeah, I'm alright. You?"
"I'm good, you know. Same old stuff." He hesitates for a second, and I can hear the concern in his voice. "You've been okay over at Uncle Jim's?"
I glance at Cook, still passed out beside me, and shift a little, careful not to wake him
"Yeah, it's been fine, not much going on though. Same as always."There's a pause "You know... I miss you being around the house. Even with all the... stuff going on."
I feel that familiar tug in my chest
The house. The endless fighting. Mum cheating on him, and him always taking her back
I'd had enough of it months ago, couldn't stand watching him forgive her over and over
That's why I'd left for Uncle Jim's
But he's still my dad"I miss you too, Dad," I say quietly
"Your sister misses you as well. She's been asking when you'll come over for dinner"
"How's she doing?"
"Driving me crazy, as usual" he chuckles
"Sounds about right"
There's another pause, one of those comfortable silences we always have, but I know what's coming next
"Your mum... she asked about you the other day."
I stiffen, my fingers gripping the blanket tighter"I don't want to talk about her, Dad"
"I know, I know" he says quickly "I'm not pushing you. Just... she misses you too, you know"
"She made her choices. And so did I."
There's a heaviness between us now, but he doesn't push it further
"Well, we'd love to see you soon. Whenever you feel up to it"
"I'll come by sometime" I say, not wanting to commit to a time "Tell Holly I'll call her."
