Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

That's all David could hear. Well, besides the general ambience of the hospital: faint sounds of nurses and doctors talking, medical equipment clinking, and of course, the beeping of the heart monitor.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

The sounds echoed more and more with each passing beep. All David could really do was just watch. He didn't really know what was going on or why he was at the hospital. Last thing he remembered was getting blackout drunk at a party. He wasn't anywhere near a car so drunk driving couldn't have been it.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

Hours must've passed until a doctor came in. David looked at the well dressed man, confused and even worried.

"It's a damn miracle you survived. You drank a near fatal amount of alcohol."

"W-What..?"

"We had to do quite a few operations on you. You're staying here for a while and then we're admiting you to rehab."

David just watched blankly. He wasn't sure of what to make of it. Once he signed the waiver and the doctor left, he lied back down, closed his eyes and tried to fall asleep.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
