In the media is a picture of Maggie and Athena house.Emmett spotted Maggie across the hallway, his lips curving into a slow mischievous smile as he made his way towards her. Maggie felt his gaze even before she saw him; it was like magnetic pulling her attention towards him. When she finally looked up their eyes locked, and Emmett raised a brow, his grin widening.
"Now, what's a girl like you doing all alone in a place like this?" He teased, his voice laced with a playful southern drawl.
Maggie gave him a smirk, her fingers tracing the edge of her book. "Maybe I'm just waiting for someone interesting enough to talk to me," she replied, her eyes flickering up to meet his. "Think you fit the bill?"
Emmett leaned a little closer, his gold eyes dancing with amusement. "Oh, I'd say I could keep you entertained," he murmured, his gaze not breaking from hers for a second. "Though I might warn you, I'm not exactly known for being...subtle."
Maggie laughed rolling her eyes, but she couldn't deny the thrill in her chest. "I don't mind a little boldness. I think it suite you," she said, letting a hint of a challenge slip into her voice.
"Careful," Emmett replied, his voice low and smooth. "I might take that as an invitation."
Her cheeks warmed under his gaze, but she held his stare. "Who said it wasn't?" She replied her tone daring him.
Emmett's eyes sparkled his smirk shifting into something warmer, a touch softer. He leaned just close enough to murmur, "Then I'd say we have ourselves a date."
As he pulled back, Maggie found herself smiling, her heart racing just a little faster.
"I guess we do," Maggie replied, her smile playful as she met Emmett's gaze.
His grin grew as he held out his phone. "So, may I have your number to fill you in on the details?" He asked, a teasing glint in his eyes.
Maggie tilted her head, pretending to hesitate. "Hmm, I don't know.." She said, watching as his smiled faltered ever so slightly. She couldn't hold back a laugh. "Oh relax—I'm just playing," she teased, taking his phone and entering her number.
Emmett chuckled, his eyes gleaming as she handed it back to him. "Think I'll be seeing you around?" He asked, his tone casual but his gaze intent.
"Maybe," she said with a shrug, shutting her locker with a soft click. "Guess we'll just have to find out, won't we?" With a sly smile she turned and started down the hall.
"Keep your phone close," he called after her, his grin widening as he watched her disappear into the crowd, confident she'd heard every word.
———— Maggie's POV —————
I sat in biology, idly chatting with Angela, a quiet friendly girl who'd told me her name between small smiles. She was nice, easy to talk to and had this soft energy I really liked. But every so often, I felt the intensity of Edward's gaze settle on me. I'd flash him a reassuring smile whenever I caught him staring hoping it'd ease him.
Then Bella came in sliding into the seat next to him and I noticed the immediate change. His body went rigid, his posture tight and his expression barely shifting but there was a sharpness in his eyes, a sign of discomfort that concerned me.
I tried to focus on the lesson, but it was hard to ignore what was happening beside me. From the corner of my eye, I saw Bella lean closer to Edward, her expression soft and a little worried. "Are you okay?" She whispered to him, trying to be subtle.
