23rd August, 2022
Kathmandu, Nepal.Ten days ago, on August 13th, 2022, Jared was killed. I was still grappling with the aftermath of a harrowing experience. As a ninth-grader, I had become dangerously addicted to heroin. The drug had initially seemed like a lifeline, but eventually, it led me to a near-fatal overdose. Now, sober and reflecting on the past, I realize that the true hell was not the addiction itself, but the emptiness that followed after his death.
Jared's friends and mine have been reaching out, offering support. My sisters have been a constant presence through video calls. I've attempted suicide several times, but my young brother or B, a friend I met through Tinder, have always interrupted my plans. B, who was also dealing with relationship troubles, has unknowingly become a guardian angel, preventing me from harming myself.
My younger brother, now 11, has been taking on the role of a caretaker. Despite his young age, he has been preparing meals, making the bed, and even encouraging me to bathe and engage in activities like watching movies. His unwavering support and love have been instrumental in preventing me from attempting suicide again. I feel incredibly fortunate to have him in my life.
Every morning, I leave for school around 7 AM, arriving at 8:20. My colleagues have been incredibly supportive, offering hugs and words of encouragement. However, the emotional toll of the past few weeks has been significant. I've been breaking down during class breaks and haven't eaten a meal in over 10 days.Today, the principal summoned me to her office. As I entered, she requested that I close the door. She then began to compliment my teaching abilities, which brought me a sense of comfort. Even though my fourth-grade students are aware of my grief, they consistently try to brighten my day with playful antics. It feels as though fate brought me to this school to provide support during my difficult time. I miss my mother dearly and long for her comforting embrace. When you're far from home, your mother's love and support are always essential.
