CHAPTER TWO
I watched out my front door as he drove away. We hadn’t talked at all the whole ride to my house. It was 7, not even close to past my curfew, which was a very good thing. I walked into the living room to tell my mom about my accident as Miss Fischer, the doctor, had requested of me. She smiled at me when I sat down next to her on the couch. She had her long pale legs up on the couch, crossed “Indian style”. She gazed so lovingly at me through her grey-blue eyes, I had gotten my eyes from her, sometimes it hurt me to know how much she loved me. It hurts because of how much I have hurt her in the past few years, especially since my dad died. I couldn’t help but look at the several cuts across my wrists. She had found me, last year, in my bathtub. I had almost died that day. I haven’t cut since then, she didn’t need to hurt anymore. She was 36, but she didn’t look any older than 30. I could only hope to turn out as amazing as my mom had.
“hi sweetie” she said with a smile.
“hey.” I said smiling back. “um, I got in a fight today. I had to go to the hospital, I broke a rib.” I silently prayed that she wouldn’t get mad at me.
“oh my gosh Lux.” she gasped using my middle name like she always does. It means light. “are you okay baby? Does it hurt? Do you need anything?” She attacked me with questions, going into protective mode.
“mom. I’m fine. Really. They gave me pain meds, it doesn’t hurt, and I should be all good to go within the next month.” I said, trying to calm her down. “I’m gonna have to stay home from school for a while the doctor said though. I’ll have aly or someone bring me homework and stuff.”
“ok.. But just be careful skyler, please baby.” I could see the sadness in her eyes, it stabbed violently through me. “promise me you’ll be more careful with this stuff. I know you can’t stop yourself when you get going, you get that from your dad, but just be careful” she finished as she got up off the couch. She turned the T.V. off, kissed my forehead and headed up the stairs for her nightly bubble bath. I sat on the couch in silence, my legs crossed, my head in my hands. But the silence only lasted for maybe 2 minutes before my phone started ringing
“I climb I slip I fall
Reaching for your hand
But I lay here all alone
Sweating all your blood-”
I answered before the song could continue. It was aly.
“dude. So how’d it go. With Blake I mean. Like, what happened? Did anything happen? Did you get into a fight?” she could have went on longing but I chose to stop her.
“we smoked a joint together, and we um” I really didn’t feel like talking about this right now.
“you what.” she pestered.
“we um.. We kissed.” I sighed. “we kissed a lot” I finished, thoroughly defeated.
“OH MY FUCKING HOT BABY JESUS!” she screamed in my ear. “is he a good kisser? Wait. You didn’t get stuck did you? Like, your snake bites?” she asked laughing, I chuckled at the thought.
“I know right.. And yeah, he is an amazing kisser. And no, we didn’t get hooked” I said laughing.
“I should have figured he was good, I mean, he was such amazing lips. Did you use tongue.?!” she can be so weird sometimes, so annoying.
“his lips are mine, not yours. And no, there was no tongue involved.” why she even wanted to know that was slightly mind boggling. I looked at the clock on our cable box, 9 already. Time sure does fly when your being interrogated.
