Chapter Three: Mentor
Naru jumped up as her alarm began to ring quickly muted it and proceeded to get ready for the plan she devised last night. Nikko yawned, stretching and watching Naru gather items in her pack.
"Naru? Where are you going?" He questioned.
"I'm going to find a teacher. I'll be back-"
"I wanna come!!" He barked."Shhh!" She hissed, making the fox hunch before smiling, his bushy tail swishing back and forward. "Fine, you can come, hop in." She said opening her pack and letting the fox jump in and curl up quickly. She slid her bedroom window open looking around carefully before she leapt from the window landing easily on her feet and ran down the streets heading towards the backwood trails where her target was located, after all this was his daily morning routine.
She landed in the clearing listening closely, the sparse chirping of birds in the distance and the gentle howl of wind before the snap of a branch made her whirl around dodging a large black wolf that skidded to a stop before snarling, backing her to a tree. "Morning Kasai.." Naru greeted, the wolf straightened, looking her up and down before his tail gave the slightest wag before he sniffed the air towards her bag. "Yes, Nikko is in my pack, you can't play." She responded by rubbing the wolf's head which came to her shoulder, he huffed walking away and led her along to Sakumo who was checking the six other wolves of his pack.
"Hi Sakumo-sensei." She greeted him, he blinked in shock and smiled.
"What are you doing up so early? Did Minato call for a meeting?"
"No." She said curtly which he caught but chose not to address. "I had a request for you, I wanted to know if you can train me."
"Yeah, we'll be training together-"
"No, not together, just me, just train me without Kakashi and Tou-san.""What brought this on? The mission?" He questioned, Naru grumbled kicking at the dirt, and he sighed with a smile. "Alright, we'll give it a shot, since I have a mission later today, in 48 hours I will put you in a test of skills, a small game of hunt, the pack will take it easy on you, and by the end of these 48 hours I want you to have three styles you want to learn and master, but you must know all the information on them. Deal?"
"Deal!" Naru nodded excitedly.
Naru stood outside the ninja library slightly dreading the idea of research and reading. While she excelled in school it was due to Kakashi helping her, he did the reading and would make it simple for her to remember. 'Well, no options, let's do this.'
The hair on the back of her neck stood suddenly as she felt the eyes of someone on her back. She whirled around to see a quick blur shoot to an alley, she squinted at the spot before shrugging and walking into the library.
"Well hello there Naru-chan, what brings you here?" The elderly librarian questioned with a gentle smile.
"Hi O-baa-san, I need some documents on the different jutsu styles, beyond the basics."
The woman nodded and beckoned her to follow as she walked to the second floor. "This here details all jutsu types known, you'll have to search in-depth on how to break each down. And I'm sure you can find a jounin around town that can teach you the basics."
"Thank you O-baa-san." Naru bowed before looking at each title slowly pulling them out creating a large stack on the desk mentally making her whimper at the reading she had to do.
