"X?"
"X!"
With a groan, X peeped one eye open.
"Mm?" They grumbled.
"X, it's time to wake up. We've got places to be," Seven said gently, sitting on the edge of their bed with a squeak.
"But I don't wanna," They whined and pulled the covers back over their head.
Seven sighed. "You're gonna have to, or I'm not getting you bacon Mac n' Cheese," he taunted.
X's eyes shot open.
"How dare you! That was a promise!"
Within minutes, they had cleaned up and were padding out the front door.
The sound of wheels on gravel was pleasing to X as they rolled out of the driveway, and, upon seeing their grin, Seven ruffled their hair.
"You excited to see the fam?"
X nodded.
"Not sure how they're gonna take the head bandages, though," they muttered. "Maybe they'll think its a new style, or 'trendy'," they said with a chuckle to themselves.
"I'm sure they're all going to think you're so brave for standing up to that mean bully," he said with a smile.
A jolt of panic flew through X. Had they told him that they weren't the one who had bashed Three's head in? Oh no...
"But, Seven, I didn't-"
Seven cut them off with a chuckle.
"I know you didn't. But that's just between us, right?" He said with a grin.
X sighed, deflating anxiously.
"Yeah, I guess so. It just doesn't feel right to take the credit for something I know I couldn't have done..."
Seven exhaled. "You don't have to worry about it. I'm sure I'll hear it if they bring it up, and I can change the subject."
X nodded, a little relieved.
"Thanks, Seven."
Seven gave his quirky little thumbs up. "No prob-lem-o, Xy."
The scent of lake water filled Four's nostrils as they drove down the paved road to the diner. The water glinting off the sun and the screams of little kids tubing wasn't enough to distract four from the raging battle that was happening in his stomach.
He bit back a gag and said "I think I'm gonna be sick."
He could basically hear his dad's frustration. "You said that last time we were here."
His mom butted in. "Last time we were here, he vomited too, Quad, pull over."
He made it about two steps out of the car before making a gutteral *noise* and puking on the pavement.
He wiped his mouth with his sleeve and shivered, getting back in the car.
"What did we learn?" His dad asked.
"Don't play with your phone in the car," He mocked, glaring at the rearview mirror.
The doors swung open and four stumbled into the brightly colored diner.
A cheery teal number two smiled and said "Welcome to Baxter's Basin- sir are you ok?" They was four's state and their eyes widened.
"He's fine," His dad grumbled and they followed them to the table.
They passed out the menus and said " a waiter will be right with you," before hurriedly walking away.
They sat there in silence for about 2 minutes before Four tried to use his phone, but his mom grabbed it.
"No."
Four blinked a few times before crossing his arms and pouting.
His dad looked at him and said, "You could grab a kids menu, you can draw on it to keep you occupied,"
Four reluctantly got up. He'd rather be humiliated then bored.
Walking over to the waiter's cabinet for a kids menu, and he ran into a... familiar figure.
"It's you," he said, surprised.
The yellow variable turned to look at him. "Four? Why... wh- how did you get here?"
He blinked. "We drove."
X sighed. "Yeah, that makes sense."
"Uh-... see you around I guess? Thanks for saving me." X said.
"Yeah. It's no big deal. Any day." He stumbled over his words, and held out his hand for a handshake.
X held up a fist for a fistbump.
They did some combo of the two, Four holding and shaking X's fist, and then they both waddled away.
"You didn't even grab a menu, Four, why did you take so long?"
