Virginia "Pepper" Stark, the current CEO of Stark Industries, sits at her large but simple desk. She can't wait for her four-day Thanksgiving break starting later this week. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind her, you can see that it's mid-morning in downtown Manhattan in the year 2043.
Pepper's listening to the Monday morning update from her assistants.
"The drone software bug has been fixed with an over-the-air update," says one.
"And here's the latest factory report," says the other, offering some papers to Pepper.
Pepper reaches for the papers, thanking her, except...
The thank-you came out as more of an "enkyoo," and her arm didn't move. What in the world? "Wha...?" She blinks.
There's something wrong with the left side of her face. It's not moving. Both assistants are wearing blank, almost horrified, expressions. One of them unfreezes and types quickly into his phone. The other is still in shock.
Then the one asks, "Wait...can you raise both arms?"
Pepper tries. Her right arm goes up, but her left won't move. She looks at it, confused. What is going on? She tries to say no, but it comes out as "Moh..."
"I think you're having a stroke," the assistant declares. "I'm calling 911."
