LATE AUTUMN OF 2017• • •
There was an unusual silence shared between the two best friends as they hung out in Xia's room.
Their previous conversation still fresh on their minds and the school project they had been working on long forgotten.
The girl doodled in her notebook at her desk, thoughts of another boy swirling around in her head.
Chenle was lounging across her bed, face covered by his phone as he absentmindedly played his game.
Oddly enough, thoughts of the same boy began to invade his brain. One particular question echoing throughout.
His character in the game died and he took that opportunity to voice his query.
"Xi?"
"Yeah," she didn't bother looking up from her notebook.
"Do you really think he would hurt you... while you're... you know?"
Her pen stopped scratching against the paper. She gave it a good pondering for half a minute before giving him a response.
She let out a sigh. "I don't know," she said honestly, going back to her drawing.
Chenle, unsatisfied with the inconclusive answer, sat up straight and set his phone to the side, back to being fully invested in the conversation.
"Why? Is it because it's Mingi or because he's a guy...?"
He didn't entirely understand why, but a large part of him was hoping it was the former rather than the latter.
Xia sat up straight, folding her leg to press it against her chest. She bit down on her lip in thought.
"I just wish that I had more experience." She admitted. "If I knew what to expect then I would know what's normal and what's not okay. I guess I have a decent idea now, but you never know until you've actually experience it."
Chenle nodded even though she wasn't facing his direction.
"I, uh, I get that. I feel the same about Yizhuo. Except for me it's more about embarrassing myself than anything else."
The girl was somewhat surprised to hear this from him. Her best friend was completely enamored with the other girl, and he was the most confident out of everyone in their friend group.
But, then again, he hardly ever went into a situation unprepared. She supposed that this one was just the same.
As for Xia herself, she liked to have control of most situations, and she knew for fact that this would be one situation that she'd have no control over.
At least that's how it felt.
"If only we could just get it over with and not have to worry about it anymore."
There was a subtle implication in his tone that caught the girl's attention.
She spun the chair around to analyze his facial expression.
Chenle was staring at the wall in that dazed look he would get every once in a while when he was hatching up a big plan.
It didn't take much for Xia to get an idea of what he was thinking about.
Past the initial shock, the pieces started to put themselves together. In an odd way it kind of made sense.
"With someone you can trust," she added. His eyes immediately shifted to hers.
