One full year passed. A year since Eren found you in that alley, since the Yeagers took you in. As you walked the familiar streets of the district, memories from the past months played in your mind, like fragments of a dream. So much had changed since then, and yet, in many ways, things still felt the same.
Your bond with Eren had grown stronger, the two of you sharing and unspoken understanding that went beyond words. You still shared a room, but now that you had your own bed, you didn't feel like a guest anymore. He had insisted you keep the scarf, and it became a constant companion, a symbol of the connection that tethered you to this world. Despite the strange electricity that still pulsed through every accidental touch, you had grown used to Eren's presence and his fiery attitude.
Armin too, had become a close friend. He often shared his dreams and stories with you, and you found yourself captivated by his quiet strength, his curiosity. Though the electric shock you'd felt with him had never been as intense as it was with Eren, it was still there, a subtle reminder of how important they both had become to you.
But despite the closeness, you still felt that same current of unease sometimes. It wasn't anything they did—Eren and Armin had been nothing but supportive until now. It was just that you didn't feel like you fully belong here. The nagging sensation of being a puzzle piece that's desperately trying to fit. But you had learned to live with it, burying the confusion beneath the day-to-day routines of life in Shiganshina.
Now, as you walked alongside Eren and Grisha through the forest, you found yourself once again tugging at the scarf around your neck, wrapping it tighter around you. You were accompanying them on one of Grisha's house calls, a visit to the Ackerman family, who lived on the outskirt of the district. It wasn't unusual for Grisha to take Eren with him, but today, he had invited you along as well.
Something about today felt... off.
It wasn't the gray clouds hanging heavy in the sky or the chill in the air, though those didn't help. It was something else, a feeling you couldn't quite shake, a deep, gnawing sensation in your gut like the calm before a storm. You glanced at Eren, who was walking a little ahead, but he didn't seem to notice anything unusual. You told yourself it was nothing—just your imagination running wild. Still, the feeling lingered, heavy and suffocating.
You quickened your pace, falling into step beside Eren, the scarf's warmth against your skin a small comfort. You kept close, hoping that the feeling of unease would fade if you stayed near him.
"Mikasa?" You heard Eren ask, glancing up at his father.
"That's right." Grisha replied, his voice steady as ever. "She's a girl your age. There aren't many children around here, so try to get along with her."
You could see Eren sulk from the corner of your eye, his expression shifting into that familiar scowl. "That depends on her attitude."
Grisha sighed, shaking his head with a faint smile. You knew he found Eren's antics amusing, though it was obvious he also worried a lot about him. "Eren, that's why you only have two friends. And [Name] doesn't really count, considering you're forced to interact with her."
