Chapter Text

It had been a long few weeks for all of the women assigned to be under Sobel's directions and rules. But none of them could quite complain—all of the nurses and female attendants had been bunked up together in a section of the bunkhouses. That, of course, made for better company than the dreary group of men they were working with.

Still, it wasn't until every single one of the cabins was full with trainees that Winnie and her nurses felt like a routine could be established. Easy Company was a large company and as per regulation, would only be getting one medic per platoon and then one senior medic per company. From day one of all of the men being there, it was clear that Sink was trying to weed out who would actually fit as a medic and be able to handle that sort of stress.

Combat stress was different from medical stress, after all. Men could wield a gun and aim like no one's business—and there would be more of them that could do that in comparison to men who could accurately assess the horrific bloody aftermath of such events.

The first day of everyone being assigned to their respective Companies meant a lot of shots for Winnie and her nurses. There were certain immunizations and things that were generally required. And seeing as how these men had come from every portion of the country to become Paratroopers, it was a mixed bag of who had been immunized and who hadn't.

Winnie was no stranger to stabbing needles into men's butts. She was no stranger to the humor of men who thought it was in their best interest to flirt with herself and the nurses. Dirty talk, after all, wasn't something she was unfamiliar with.

She had a particular quality to the way that she administered shots. Her method was simple: don't give a warning while they're usually yapping or flirting and be swift—not a single smile graced her features that entire time. If the men wanted smiles, they should have been in line for Reba or Eileen—both of whom had better bed-side manners than Winnie herself possessed.

She had lost count of how many shots she had administered at this point—and the next person up in her line just looked utterly annoyed at the entire situation. He glanced to the side, giving a cough in his friend's direction. "Well let's just get this over with, huh, Dick?"

"Shots don't scare me, Nix."

"Well you got the nice lady."

Winnie gave a brow raise and a pointed cough, gesturing at the table. "Sign here and put the company you're in," Winnie stated, handing him a clipboard with a sheet of paper on it. His name would spill over onto the second page as he signed, letting out a low whistle.

Maybe the shots was just a new form of torture or something. He promptly signed it and handed the thing back to Winnie. She glanced at the form—Easy Company, that meant he fell under Sobel's direction.
