The following morning Lauren and Glenn were up early, working on repairing one of the broken doors at the entrance to the cellblock. The damn thing had been off it's hinges since they had found the prison they just hadn't gotten around to fixing it until now.
"Hey!" Daryl's voice rang out behind them. The pair turned their heads to see Daryl approaching from the courtyard. "You seen Merle around?"
Glenn gave a small huff and turned back around, not even answering.
"Nope." Lauren said flatly before turning her attention back to their task.
She let out a huff as she struggled to lift the heavy metal door into place. Someone came up on the other side of her, and the weight of the metal lessened. She looked over to see Daryl beside her, lifting the door.
"I got it." She grunted stubbornly. He didn't leave.
"Merle say he was sorry yet?" Daryl asked while Glenn continued fiddling with the hinges. Lauren and Glenn didn't reply as Glenn finished with the hinges. "Cause he is."
"No, he's not." Lauren huffed, grabbing the large toolbox beside them and hoisting it up on the metal table a few feet away. Glenn followed, grabbing the remaining tools from the ground. "You being sorry for him doesn't count."
Daryl pursed his lips, taking a step towards the table. "He's gonna make it right. I'm gonna make him."
Lauren and Glenn didn't say anything, they just continued packing up the tools. Daryl let out a huff of frustration. He was trying to make things better, he really was, but no one was working with him.
"There's got to be a way." He sighed. "Just needs to be a little forgiveness is all."
Glenn sucked in a breath, raising his eyes to meet Daryl's "He tied me to a chair, beat me, and threw a walker in the room. He tried to kill Michonne, then he nearly beat you and Lauren to death."
"He wasn't really gonna kill us or nothin'." Daryl insisted and Lauren scoffed.
"Oh well, in that case all is forgiven!" She rolled her eyes, grabbing the toolbox and turning to Glenn. "I'll get started on the front gate."
Lauren walked away and Glenn turned to face Daryl again, lowering his voice slightly. "Look, maybe I could call it even, but he took Maggie to a man who terrorized her, humiliated her. I care more about her than I care about me... I know you know what that feels like."
Glenn followed Lauren out to the fence where she was already working on the damage. The two of them worked in silence for a few minutes before Glenn finally spoke.
"Have you two talked much since he's been back?" He grunted, hoisting up one side of the fallen fence.
Lauren shook her head, lifting the other side. "Not really."
"Are you going to?"
Lauren gave him a quizzical look, grabbing some of the wire from the toolbox and twisting it around where the gate had snapped. "I don't know... I mean probably at some point, why?"
Glenn shook his head, taking the wire from her and doing the same on his side. "Just wondering."
"Have you talked to him much since he's got back?" Lauren raised an eyebrow at her friend.
"He's tried a few times... I've just blown him off." Glenn sighed."I know it's not his fault it's just... after what happened to Maggie I can't believe he would go off with Merle."
Lauren nodded. "How are you guys by the way?"
"We're good." Glenn smiled to himself. "We're really good...mainly thanks to you."
