Chapter 20
- Lamya Gillard
Chicago, IL
"Mama pleaseeeee" I begged my mom.
I was currently trying to convince her to let me go to Mari's house. She wouldn't let me because technically I was "in trouble" for waking up late which ultimately made me, Mari and my siblings late.
It was an honest mistake oh well. But she wanted to be petty about it and said I can't go over his house the rest of the week.
Because the only reason I woke up late was because we were up all night and he was teaching me how to play Fortnite.
Which I actually basically a pro at now.
"Lamya get out of my face." She said because this was my fifth time asking in the past 30 mins.
"Mama that's not even fair my alarm didn't go off." I whined.
I wasn't the only one in trouble she said he couldn't come over either so all we had was FaceTime.
"Yall should've took yall asses to bed last night and you would've heard it go off." She said
"It won't happen again. Promise" I smiled holding out my pinky.
"Go to Lyric to your dad's house" she said.
"Ma.." I muttered. She knew I didn't like going over there.
"Okay Mari stays at his house, and you stay here." She said with finality.
"Omg.." I mumbled irritated but I walked to Lyrics room anyways.
"Lyric, put your shoes on I'm finna take you to dad's house" I told her as she was watching tv at her table.
"Okay!" She squealed with excitement and jumped up from her chair to grab her shoes.
I walked to my room and put on a blue faded hoodie to match my blue crocs and put on some grey sweat pants because it was cold. But I wouldn't be out the car long.
It hadnt snowed a lot this winter, to my disappointment. I put my coat on and then went to help lyric put her stuff on.
When I was done she said bye to everyone and we walked to the front door. I grabbed my keys off the hook and then went were out the front door.
I got her car seat out my mom's trunk and put it in my car. After I got her buckled in I got in the car and we pulled off.
5 mins into the ride my dad called me. I propped the phone up and answered it. It was a FaceTime.
"Hello," I answered
"Hey, where you at?" He asked
"In the car." I answered.
Lyric was too focused on her iPad with her headphones in to pay attention to his voice going through the car.
"Oh. Where's my baby? At home?" He asked. I knew that was coming. It's all he ever wants.
"She's in the back. We're on our way over now." I said plainly focusing on the road.
"Alright, pretty girl," he called to her but she didn't hear him.
I briefly looked back to tap her. She pulled her headphones off and I turned my attention back to the road.
"Your dad's on the phone, Jojo" I told her.
