OCTAVIA KELSEY

OCTAVIA NEVER REALLY KEPT UP with social media much. Yes, she was an active user of the apps like Instagram, Twitter and even Tiktok, but she never paid any attention to the gossip that would scatter the sites; she thought it was brain rot in its purest form.

You never truly knew what was going on with someone outside of social media— that's something she'd learned a while ago.

Besides, most days she was too busy teaching in the studio to really give a shit about what was going on online. The dance studio had been her second home for the past 7 years, and after the owner who was also her original dance teacher, Bellamy, had made her the head choreographer before moving four hours away with his husband, teaching classes every other day took up most of her time.

Not that she was complaining, not at all; she loved to dance and she cherished her job, and Octavia was beyond grateful when Bellamy passed the torch to her. He still made an effort to drive down at least once every month or so to check in on things and see her, and each time, he was more impressed with the way she managed things so seamlessly. When he appointed her as his assistant teacher back in 2017, he did so with the vision that she would eventually take his place, and time and time again, he was reaffirmed that it was one of the best decisions he could have made.

Thankfully, you didn't exactly need a degree to become a dance teacher, and Octavia was glad that she would never have to worry about going to school ever again. Thank fuck.

Being an instructor at Bellamy Studios brought her a pretty good income, enough for her to live comfortably in LA. It was surprising to her how many people actually signed up for dance classes, and in the past nearly four years of her being an actual teacher, she had seen over a thousand different faces come and go from her room. Whether they were just there to try it out, get in some good cardio or stay for good, it didn't matter to her— all she cared about was teaching dance, and if that wasn't someone else's passion, then she understood it wasn't for everyone and wished them the best.

Octavia did have a few regulars that had been attending her classes for a year or two— take Quinn, for instance. Quinn had never missed a single day, and she possessed a natural talent for dance that Octavia was consistently blown away by. The young brunette was always attentive and quick to catch on, and whenever Octavia granted her students their Freestyle Day to create their own dance to a song of their choice, Quinn killed it every time.
