I'm deeply interested in finding out more about The Amazing Digital Circus and how the connection between the digital and real worlds works. So I'm just going to list certain little things that I wonder about and what they could mean. This is mostly going to be about the pilot, but just in case, I recommend not reading this til you've seen all 3 of the episodes that are out, so you won't be spoiled! Hope you all enjoy!
1: Caine's line about not knowing what to put on the other side of the exit door raises a lot of questions for me. He knows the characters want to leave the circus, but he seems to not understand where they want to go. Does he know about the real world? Where did he come from? It's clear that Caine is not the all powerful creator of the circus, there is very obviously someone else behind it giving him his power.
So the way I see it, him not knowing about the human world can only have two potential explanations. Either he's a self aware NPC (or some other kind of character that was actually created in the circus, and didn't come from the real world at all), which I honestly doubt but it's possible, OR he came to the circus a long, long time ago, was given his power, and now he simply can't remember because of his memory problems, which we see during his conversation with Zooble in Episode 3.
I think possibly Caine may have been transported there when he was a child, and the reason he hasn't abstracted after all that time was a combination of the memory problems and the power keeping him busy. He could have been the first ever human transported to the circus, a test run, which is why he's so odd. Deep down, I think he just wants to help the others and maybe break free of the mastermind's control, but he keeps forgetting or getting distracted.
Also, other than each character forgetting their real names, I notice Kinger and Caine are the only two characters with memory loss, which is further evidence towards my idea of Caine being the other character who's been in the circus the longest, and since Kinger is technically royalty in some way, it could mean more power in the digital world means more mental health issues. Ragatha often feels helpless and she seems to be the most stable. I don't know.
2. That zoom-out at the very end of the pilot where we see that the whole circus is on the screen of an old desktop computer in a run-down office room, similar to the office rooms Pomni ran through when she tried to use Caine's unfinished exit door. I believe whoever has the real control over the entire circus is in the real world, making/controlling it through the computer.
My Amazing friend Kiki, who deserves full credit for this idea, I'll tag them in the comments, came up with the thought that when a person is ''transported'' to the circus, their digital form is created and that form is what gets trapped in the digital world, the real person who put on the headset is able to remove it and go about their life. The digital versions just don't know that they aren't their real selves. This concept makes it all much less tragic and sinister, and I quite like it. This would also explain each character being unable to remove the headset. It's possible Caine knew about this at some point and forgot.
3. When Pomni is running through those office rooms, there's a second where it zooms out and it appears she's only running through one straight corridor in a whole labyrinth?? There seems to be other rooms that have no lights on, it's difficult to tell what all is going on and I can't fathom what it could be about, but it's definitely something to note. And each office room has unique qualities, like different shelves and folders. Caine definitely put in a lot of detail work. I wonder why he designed it to look like a bunch of office rooms, but to me the effort proves he'd genuinely help the characters leave if he had a better understanding of everything and could do it.
4. This one is kind of grasping at straws, but in those office rooms (I really looked close at them ok) I noticed a corporate looking logo on the wall that said C&A. I'm trying to guess what that could stand for. Caine &....something/someone? Circus & Adventure? Circus & Amazing? I could be completely overthinking this, but as a mostly-religious person, the name Caine is kind of relevant to me. In the Bible, there is a passage about the story of Caine/Cain and Abel, two brothers.
Cain was jealous of Abel's favor with the Lord and took his life, and was punished for it by being cursed to wander the world and never return to a proper home. Cain and Abel. C&A. I know it's probably completely unintentional, I'm almost certainly NOT cooking, but....maybe Caine has a brother who's controlling the circus, and he trapped Caine or Caine's digital form in the circus out of jealousy or as punishment for hurting him.
''Then why does Caine have so much power?''. In the story of Cain and Abel, Cain spoke to God and told him ''If I wander the world, I will surely be harmed'', and God gave him a special blessing of safety. That kinda resembles ''If I'm trapped in a colorful circus, I will surely lose my mind'' and someone giving Caine his power to keep him busy so he wouldn't. I sound crazy, I only included this because it came to my mind, I don't really believe it.
5. Gummigoo will come back. Ragatha said herself that it's possible, and my brother pointed out that an official plushie of him is being sold, and why would they sell plushies if he wasn't going to ever come back? Plus, they set up a storyline with him.
6. This has been pointed out several times by different people online, but Pomni is a jester who showed up just as Kaufmo, a clown, abstracted. Clearly, there is a delicate balance of the cast needed in the circus, that's interesting.
7. It's important that none of us forget, the circus is supposed to be a cartoon world. Caine is supposedly aiming to entertain an audience, and Jax even broke the fourth wall. I am a bit confused about where Caine thinks this audience is since they're clearly not in the circus and he doesn't seem to understand the human world, but I'm more focused on the fact that we've seen a theme song, but we have not seen what an episode of this in-universe show is. I don't think the adventures are meant to be in-universe episodes. I'm pretty curious about why Caine doesn't seem interested in having the characters act anything out. Maybe he's setting something up?
8. What happens if a character passes away in the digital world...???
9. The way the circus was shown to be a big floating island surrounded by all void and then on a computer screen, if the characters went far enough out into the void, would they eventually be able to get out, or would they just end up pressed against the glass screen? Could they ever see or communicate with the owner of the computer?
10. Why is Jax so different? He's the only one who stays calm all the time, the only one with ears, the only one with an actual human name, the only animal character (besides Gummigoo who's an NPC), and the only one who actively tries to make things more difficult for others. He just stands out SO much. This could be something else I'm overthinking, but it's very noticable to me.
That's all I got for now, MAN this is fun! I'll update this with a new chapter if it gets popular and/or if I think of something new. Feel free to leave your own opinions as long as you do it nicely!
