Wattpad Idol submissions

"isn't this refreshing" Claire said as she looked around, her brown hair flying around her as she skipped. We were walking in the woods, it was a summer day. The sun was on our backs and the bugs were everywhere. "Much better than just going to the movies"

"Yeah" Sam said as he swatted a bug that had landed on his hand "What could be better than being constantly bitten by all kinds of bugs. I can't imagine why I'd want to go to the movies instead of this." laughed, shaking my head. We were an odd group, complete opposites and yet we've been best friends since fifth grade. "What are you laughing at, Jane? You hate bugs just as much as I do"

I turned to Sam with teasing smile "But I'm the smart one who brought bug spray." I said and turned around, showing him the bag we put the stuff we wanted in. "Remind me what's the only thing you brought Sam?"

"Cheetos" Sam mumbled "But you can't blame me. If we weren't to go to the movies I was at least going to get the heavenly snack, also known as cheetos."

"You know for all those lame blonde jokes you throw about me. That was a pretty lame choice, and you're a brunette."

"Oh shut up."

I laughed and continued to walk, I looked around and frowned, noticing we had went off trail. This wasn't part of the plan. We had been walking for a while now and we must've gotten distracted. "Hey guys, we're walking off trail. I think we should go back before we get lost." We stopped walking and turned, trying to find sign of the trail we were supposed to be following.

Claire laughed nervously, her blue eyes filled with nervousness "Yeah, where is that trail again?" I had no idea. how could we not have noticed we were walking off-trail? And how were we supposed to find our way back?

"Okay let's just retrace our steps. We were walking this way" I pointed ahead of us "So let's walk in the opposite direction, we can't have gone too far." Claire and Sam agreed and we started walking back the way we came from. I tried not to show how nervous I really felt, the thought of being lost in the woods scared me. But I knew freaking out wasn't an option because it wouldn't get us anywhere. But after a while of walking without seeing anything familiar, I started to panic a bit. We were lost, we were actually lost in the woods.

"I'll call someone to get us" Claire said taking out her phone, she raised it in the air and walked around  bit "This cannot be happening" she said, angrily clicking her phone "There's no signal." I immediately checked my phone as well and saw the same thing.

"Same with my phone, damn it. Okay guys, we need to calm down." Sam said examining our surroundings "We can't panic, okay? Now we can't keep wandering, it'll get dark soon. So we need to plan how we'd spend the night if we don't out of here by then okay?"

"Yeah, you're right. Okay so what do we have?" I said as I knelt on the ground, putting the bag in front of me and looking at what's inside. "Cheetos, A big bottle of Soda, and bug spray. So we don't have much but we'll deal. We'll save the Cheetos in case we don't find anything else to eat. The soda also but we really need to find water or anything. We also need to build a fire and a small tent that would fit us all." 

"Okay that's a plan. I can build a fire, I think. My dad taught me when I was a kid so I'm going to go to give it a go now. And for a place to sleep, we can try building a shelter...I guess."

"I can get us something to eat" Claire piped up "When my mom used to take me and my sister to walk in the woods she used to give us these berries, so if I see them I'll know them."

"Okay but don't go too far and mark the trees as you walk by them so you know how to come back, okay?" I told her and she nodded and walked away. I watched as Sam took a long thin branch and  placed it in the middle of a board with a small hole in it. he had his hands pressed up against each other with the long branch in between as he started spinning it faster and faster. He would start spinning his hands from the top and make his way downwards and then start again. I had only seen this in movies and never thought it would work and sure didn't seem like it was working.
