During 1919, just after the end of World War 1, the earth and its populace was split into 2 sides
Come extreme political differences in ideology. The first bombs were dropped, marking the king and queen's war.
Soon enough, there was nothing left of the ravaged surface, it rested completely uninhabitable, forcing everyone beneath dirt.
The world went underground, but the war did not rest.
(world exposition, kinda boring. skip if you know the lore, or skip if you find it boring, the rest is much better, especially the third and fourth)
«Alright maggots! Playtime's over, get your rifle and on the parade square! »
Ezekiel sighs and gets up from his bed, almost falling over in the process, and grabs his prince rifle. It feels heavy, probably because of the bad sleep he keeps getting. Another one of those days apparently.
Not even 2 weeks in, and his platoon already got placed under the command of general officer 'up yours' Browns, famous for his relentless insults he keeps throwing at recruits, and those two weeks felt like an eternity. He knew what he signed up for at the recruitment office, but still. He notices his squad mate getting out of his bed at a snail's pace and helps him to get out, like he did for him so many times. Ezekiel then goes to splash some water on his face to wake himself up. «Pill, I'm gonna need enough drugs to kill a horse, i can't go through another one of these days, complained Ezekiel his squad mate, in the opposite side of the small room.
-I don't even have them, they're in the cleric's office.
-Well, you're training to be a medic, don't you have a key or something?
-Quit complaining and get your ass to the square. »
After putting on the ragged clothes bearing the Golden Empire's coats of arms and entering the poorly lit corridor of their dorm. They are immediately greeted by the cold air of the tunnels the training facility is composed of. The generators must have stopped working during the night, thought Ezekiel. The camp wasn't built next to a magma vein, since it would take a potential spot for a city, so they had to use army supplied generators that shut down all the time. The lights flicked randomly, also pointing to the generators as the cause, though it might also be because of the poor quality of the cable by which they are suspended. The old wooden arches looked like they could crumble at any time. Ezekiel is starting to get tired of the 'if it works it's not broken' policy that was at the origin of the myriads of problems the training camp was experiencing.
The officers screaming could already be heard from where they were, a small taste of what they'll have to endure for the rest of the day. They could already imagine the happy new recruits losing their smiles to the incessant shouting, bit by bit, demonstrative of the typical atmospheres you could see in the different groups present at the training facility. In the first one, recruits were all happy to join and serve their nation, certain that they'll make it in the special forces in no time. In the second one, in which Ezekiel and Hernandez, a.k.a 'pill' were, had a heavier atmosphere of resignation and pent-up anger against the officers who made their everyday life a nightmare, and in the third section, it circled back to the more joyous atmosphere of section one, excitement filling the eyes of the soon-to-be accomplished soldiers just waiting to be assigned to a Corp and finally going on the field. You could recognize them because they were laying around or working out, doing nothing since their training had pretty much been completed.
As Ezekiel and pill were approaching the end of the tunnel, they could already hear officer 'up yours' barking his orders at their platoon. «I wonder how he comes up with such creative insults. When was the last time you heard someone coming with something like 'bootlicker' every few seconds? asked Ezekiel.
