( sorry switches between 2nd and 3rd pov 😓😓 )

🦢.

one second, you were here, the next you weren't.

kenma couldn't comprehend the fact that you were actually gone, gone forever.

it was the harsh reality that no one, absolutely no one, could avoid. but, why you? why did it have to be you?

anyone could've been taken, but it was you. you, a young girl, his forever only, taking her last breaths — why couldn't it be someone else? why the girl who had stolen his heart?

"[name]..." he murmured softly, holding onto her cold hand. he was given a mere few moments to spend with her before she was officially taken from him. "i'm sorry" the boy repeated endlessly, bringing her lifeless palm to his lips as he kissed her knuckles "i wasn't good enough – i couldn't give you the best..you should've been alive."

she was sick. he knew that. he knew what he was getting into. and he knew that maybe he could've done better. he could've assisted her more, taken her to the hospital more frequently – heck even have her spend nights there. he could survive living in a lonely house if it meant that she was alive. as long as you were okay, he could do anything and everything. but you were gone. does that even count as okay? you were no longer a being. you were simply a body. a body which once held the soul of the very girl he adored.

they said it was cancer. a tumour spreading throughout her body. it couldn't be avoided, but surely it could've been stopped, no?

his grip tightened on her frail hand "sir," she was significantly smaller than him, but felt even more smaller without her confident bright demeanor. "..sir"

it wasn't fair. a single tear rolled down his cheek. this wasn't fair.

"sir." the voice repeatedly called out, breaking him from his trance "I apologise, but..." kenma was so lost. what could he ever do without you?

with a heavy head and heart, he let go, the warmth he left behind beginning to cool. he spared one last look :

she lay still on the cold table. her body bare, covered by a mere sheet. skin pale and cold – a contrast to girl he remembered.

so cold, and alone.
both of of you, left cold and alone.

it was funny almost. only just engaged– and this was the end. was it the end? was this really it. just because you're gone, did that mean he was alone.

no. he won't accept it. forever and always, you'll be his lover. through life and death, his happily ever after will always involve you. even if it meant that you saw the ending first, his will always end with you.

🦢.

kenma stared out into the distance, refusing to make contact with the coffin before him. kuroo, his best friend, placed a hand on his shoulder, rubbing it gently. "it's okay, she's okay." the comforting words did anything but soothe him. you were okay, no longer in pain – but because you can no longer feel it. it just didn't sit right with him.

"she's okay, ken, she's okay" he blocked out everyone, just reminiscing the times he had you by his side, alive and well.
