I usually don't wear a full set of make-up while I'm working out, it's quite inconvenient unless you're trying to catch someone's attention and today that's just what I'm after. It's like I'm preparing to go on a date with Jamie's potential killer. It makes me sick to my stomach, but part of me wants to believe it's him. At least that way I'll be sure all the efforts I put in so far weren't for nothing and I didn't waste valuable time while the real culprit is still out there.
My hand twitches as I try my hardest to apply my eyeliner for the 5th time without messing it up. It's been so long since I tried to woo someone, that I've forgotten what it's like even though it's not intending to spend the night with him but rather to make him spend the rest of his days in jail.
As I enter the hall, I see him next to the squaring rack and observe him from afar. Trying to gather as much intel before I talk to him. He's wearing a tight dark blue t-shirt, covering his neck which further confirms my suspicions that he's hiding something he's insecure about. His hair is wet from sweating, which means he's been here for a while. Good thing I came as soon as possible. I can see small black earrings underneath his earbuds, an unusual look for a businessman. There are no visible tattoos. The only other accessory I can see on him is a wristband. He doesn't wear a watch. There are a lot of silver rings on his fingers, but nothing on his ring finger, which means he's unmarried.
His bright blue eyes meet mine and I smile at him as I slowly start walking towards him, moving my hair behind my shoulders to make sure my cleavage is on full display.
"Hi, you come here often?" I go for my dumb blond girl persona, intentionally speaking in a higher voice than usual to seem more appealing.
"It depends. Are you a stalker?" He says playfully, but it still makes me think we could be off to a better start.
"You're so funny," I give him a faint chuckle. "I bet someone like you isn't unfamiliar with getting attention from women."
"It's rarely the good kind of attention. I often find it quite bothersome when someone tries to chat me up in the middle of my set." Not off to a great start at all.
"Okay, mister antisocial. I get it, I won't get in your way. I was only curious to see what got my little sister head over heels for you. That's all."
"Your sister?"
"Stephanie. After the day you two met, she wouldn't shut up about you. Please don't tell her I said this though." Let's see how he responds to my lie. If he indeed is responsible for her disappearance, then the confusion should be written all over his face.
"I wasn't aware that she had a sister." She doesn't.
"Really? That's typical for her. She's probably too scared I'll snatch you away," I laugh. "Even though she swears you're just friends."
His expression remains calm and indifferent, I can't read a single emotion on his face. He doesn't avoid looking me in the eye either as I stand there trying to dissect his soul with my piercing gaze that usually makes people tell me whatever I need. The seeds of doubt start to sprout while I wait for him to say anything. It appears that this is going to be another dead end.
"What is your name?" He asks me, putting his hand under his chin. The corners of his lips curled in a barely readable smile.
"Kate." I quickly think of a fake name.
"Ah, yes now that you mentioned it. She did mention she had a sister. Silly me, must've forgotten. "He walks closer to me, putting his hands in his pockets. I would be lying if I said I didn't feel a bit intimidated as he stares me down." She spoke so highly of you too. What can I say, I have so much stuff on my plate, I tend to get lost in the details." He extends his arm for a handshake. "My name is Damian, but you probably already knew that."
