KT was running so fast, she couldn't slow her momentum down enough to not slam into the wall of the crypt. With the wind knocked out of her, she stumbled deeper inside, followed closely by Fabian. Together, they threw open the old wooden doors, leaping over the few steps to the ground floor.

"Wait there," Fabian ordered as he shut the doors behind him, leaning his full weight against them. The rotting wood groaned when Alfie crashed into them, trying his best to get inside. "He's coming, he's coming!"

"Fabian?" KT called uncertainly, pressing herself against the far wall.

"Fabian, let me in!" Alfie screamed on the other side of the doors.

"No way!" Fabian called back, doing everything in his power to keep him out. "I saw your eyes, you're one of them!"

"Fabian!" Alfie roared and threw his body against Fabian's weight over and over again. "Let! Me! In!"

He couldn't hold him back any longer, and Alfie burst through. The edge of the door caught Fabian in the jaw, sending him tumbling onto his hands and knees.

Alfie slid to a halt a few steps from KT and extended his hand. "Come on, KT," he said breathlessly, "let's go."

Frightened, she stepped back. "Don't come any closer," KT warned, heart racing wildly.

"What?" Alfie breathed, unsure why she wouldn't take his help.

"No, don't go with him!" Fabian was back on his feet now, hair wild and hackles raised defensively. "It's a trick!"

"It's not a trick! Fabian's the evil one, not me!"

KT looked back and forth between them, unsure of what she was supposed to do. This seemed to be a favorite game of Team Evil, accusing others of treachery to shift the blame off themselves. Perhaps she should be more forgiving that they didn't know she was innocent right off the bat, because as her eyes darted between them, KT truly couldn't be sure who was telling the truth and who was lying.

"No, don't trust him! He's trying to capture you," Fabian accused, and Alfie spluttered furiously.

"I'm not, I promise!" Alfie cried, and KT searched his face for any trace of insincerity, finding none. Then again, she'd seen none in Fabian's expression either. "KT, please come with me. Please!"

"Both of you shut up!" she demanded, shutting her eyes tight and willing herself not to cry. "How do I know you're telling the truth, Alfie?"

"Because I am," Alfie insisted, and while that wasn't exactly hard and fast evidence, what other proof could he provide?

Fabian seethed, steeping toward Alfie. "She is not going with you!" he snarled.

Alfie lifted his chin defiantly. "She will when I tell her what you said to Joy," he challenged, and KT's brow furrowed. "Not exactly Fabian Rutter behavior, is it?"
