-Sanemi's POV-

Just then, Ubuyashiki-sama stepped into the room/porch, his presence silencing the chatter instantly. All eyes turned to him, and I

felt (Y/n) take a deep breath, her posture shifting as we prepared to hear what had brought us all here today. And though I knew the others would keep on poking fun at me, for now, all I could do was stay at her side, bracing for whatever came next.

The meeting was progressing as expected, Ubuyashiki-sama explaining the latest demon threats. Apparently, demons were beginning to team up, an unusual and dangerous development. It meant joint missions were needed, more patrols, and careful planning about which Hashira would cover certain regions. I only half-listened to who was stationed where, keeping one eye on (Y/n), making sure she kept up. Her face looked a bit pale, but she was focused, standing a bit straighter than usual, probably wanting to make a good impression.

Finally, the Master moved on to the last piece of news. "Before we conclude, I want to acknowledge a notable achievement," he said, his soft smile spreading as he glanced in (Y/n)'s direction. "Lower Moon Two was defeated on a recent mission."

My fellow Hashira's attention snapped to me instantly, their expressions shifting to surprise and respect. "Impressive, Sanemi!" Rengoku said, his fiery enthusiasm shining through as usual. "I expected nothing less!"

I frowned, clearing my throat, already irritated by the assumptions. "It wasn't me," I muttered. "She's the one who took him down."

A silence settled, and all eyes turned to (Y/n). Mitsuri's eyes widened in amazement, her hands coming together in excitement. "(Y/n) did that? That's incredible!"

"Unbelievable. You must have some skill," Uzui said, smirking as he studied her with newfound interest. "With talent like that, you'll need someone to guide you to the next level."

The offers started pouring in one after another, each Hashira talking over the next as they eagerly offered to train her. Uzui went on about his "flashy" techniques, Rengoku's hearty laugh filled the room as he declared she'd make an excellent student under his guidance, and even Shinobu gave her a warm, interested smile, hinting she'd be happy to "help her reach her potential."

The irritation started building in my chest, burning hotter with each offer they threw her way. I clenched my jaw, setting my chin on my hand as I glared at the group. "As if any of them could handle her," I muttered under my breath, watching her get overwhelmed by all the attention.

The meeting finally ended, the Master dismissing everyone, and the Hashira rose one by one, (Y/n) being the last to get up. She glanced in my direction, and I could see her discomfort clear as day. Quietly, she leaned toward me and whispered, "Can you help... me up?"

I stood and gave her a hand, feeling a familiar twist of protectiveness. "Yeah, I got you." She gave a weak, "Thank you..." as I helped steady her, and we started to make our way out.

But we didn't get far. Uzui sauntered up, his usual smirk plastered on his face, and without a second thought, clapped his hands down on her shoulders in some exaggerated gesture of camaraderie. Immediately, she winced, her face tightening with pain as she tensed, hands instinctively moving toward her side.

The room fell silent. Shinobu's gaze snapped to me, her expression one of concern and accusation. "Sanemi... did you push her too hard during training?" she asked, her voice sharp with suspicion.

I scowled, feeling the heat rise in my chest. "No. She was injured before I started training her—"

"Oh, really?" Mitsuri interrupted, a note of disappointment in her voice. "Look at her! She's barely standing! Why did you push her if she was injured!"

"It's his own damn student, and he's pushing her until she's breaking," Uzui chimed in, crossing his arms with an exaggerated shake of his head. "Some mentor you are."

I opened my mouth to argue, but Rengoku and Giyuu had already stepped between us. Rengoku reached over, pulling (Y/n) gently to his side, like he was protecting her from me. "You don't have to train with him if he's treating you like this, (Y/n)," he said, his tone almost fatherly. "We'd be happy to show you real guidance."

I could feel my patience slipping fast, and Obanai spoke up, his voice low but steady, "Sanemi wouldn't go that far. He has more control than that." He glanced my way, nodding slightly. But even his support was drowned out by the others' chatter. Gyomei chipped in with tears down his face as he stood over Muichiro. "Shinazugawa is rough and loud, but he would do that. I believe he is innocent."

Shinobu shook her head from Gyomei's statement, her expression sad as she stared at (Y/n). "The proof is there, Sanemi. Look at her," she said, her eyes soft with pity as she completely ignores Gyomei, and she simmering just below the surface as each of them tossed around assumptions without giving me a second to explain. I could feel the heat building up, my vision tunneling on the accusing faces in front of me.

"Fine, whatever! None of you want to listen, so go fuck yourselves!" I barked, voice echoing through the courtyard. I couldn't stand it for another second. Turning sharply, I pushed past the others, barely containing the urge to punch the nearest wall, or one of them, as I stormed off.

On my way out, I risked one last look at (Y/n). She looked shaken, uncomfortable as hell, her shoulders tense and her face strained, but she met my gaze with that same flicker of strength I'd seen in her before. Even as she tried to steady herself, though, I could see the panic beneath her calm surface. And it pissed me off even more that they'd dragged her into this mess without a second thought.

This is so damn stupid, I thought bitterly, forcing myself to keep walking.
