"No! Whatever your name is you can't sit there. That's my seat." Said the red headed girl, her curly hair spiraling around her face. Her light eyes gleamed with annoyance at Carolyn as she slowly stood up and gathered her things from the desk. The redhead flopped into Carolyn's desk with a hmph ignoring her as she turned and made her way to the back of the room where there were only three more available desks.

All eyes were on Carolyn's embarrassed face or her shiny golden hair as she walked the walk of shame and sat quietly behind a short blonde boy with glasses. He looked much younger than she was even though she was hardly 18.

The boy turned around to say something but just then the professor rushed in and flung his briefcase on his messy desk shouting silence and beginning the introduction to English 101. Carolyn took out her notebook and pencil and began taking notes trying not to dwell on the fact that she had just been rejected by someone her own age. After 30 minutes of class the professor then decided to introduce himself as Professor Marvin Lakely and finally call roll.

By the time he got to Carolyn, she had learned several things: 1) that the red head girl was named Cassandra Deke, that awful Cassandra Deke, thought Carolyn, 2) the blonde boy who tried to talk to her was named Reese Combs, and 3) the teacher already hated her.

"Amalie Peters!" He called. Carolyn didn't recognize her own name until he said it twice.

"Here!" She answered with a small voice crack.

Professor Lakely smiled mockingly, "Aw did wittle Amalie forget her name?" Then his expression changed drastically and he shouted at her, "Don't make me repeat myself ever again!"

Poor Carolyn shrank back in fear for she had never been yelled at before. The professor gave her a glare and then quickly moved on, "Abigail Potter!"

Carolyn heard a small here and some more yelling by Lakely about how Abigail Potter needed to speak louder.

The rest of class passed by painfully slow for Carolyn and when Lakely dismissed them she was one of the first students out of there. Twice in one morning had Carolyn already been rejected. This was not okay, she thought.

She made her way outside through the crowded hallway and found a large courtyard with a group of oak trees in the middle and several benches in their shade. Carolyn made her way to the closest bench and sat down, tears forming in her eyes. She'd never been a fan of school but she'd liked high school because no one was mean to her and they all said yes to her requests.

She was so frustrated that she didn't notice the short blonde boy from English walking up to her until he spoke.

"Hi." Was all he said and the confused Carolyn popped her head up and mumbled a greeting mirroring his.

"Can I sit?" The boy asked.

Carolyn granted him sitting privileges whilst racking her brain for this boy's name. She knew it started with an R. Roger? No. Robert? No. Ron? No.

The boy sat down to her right and took out a piece of paper. "So what class do you have next?" He asked without looking up.

His voice was fairly low (if he were in a choir he'd be a tenor) and he had an air of confidence in the way he talked despite his smaller build.

Carolyn shuffled through some papers in her computer bag and pulled out her crumpled schedule she got this morning before classes. "Um Calculus with Jin but not for another hour."

The boy whose name Carolyn could not remember looked up with a sympathetic look on his face, "Oh man that's unlucky. When my brother went here he had Jin three times. He's the worst. Or at least that's what my brother told me."

Carolyn scowled and asked, "Well if he's that bad then I'm just going to drop his class."

"No! Are you kidding me? You can't drop his class!" He exclaimed and jumped up from the bench gesticulating with his hands.

Carolyn jumped up too and yelled back, "And why ever not?"

The boy got louder, "It's just not fair! Why should everyone else take Jin but not you? Huh? Tell me?"

Carolyn was appalled. Is he jealous of her? "But you aren't taking Jin! And we're not even friends! Why do you even care?" He held up his hands.

"You're right I'm not taking Jin because I already dropped his class! You can't drop it too! And what are you talking about we're not friends? If we weren't friends then I wouldn't be talking to you!"

"I don't even know your name!" Carolyn shot back.

The boy's face dropped and he took a step back with disbelief then said defiantly, "My name is Reese. Goodbye."

And he stalked off. Carolyn rolled her eyes and began her English assignment. Soon Reese came back to grab his bag and stalked off again without another word to lonely Carolyn.

Why is everyone against me? She thought and a single tear dripped onto her assignment.

Chapter 1 is done! Yay! Tell me what you think!
