I lie in bed awake
And wait for it to go away
But it always stays
When I think of Violet, I think of you

Zeya's pov
My arms feel stiff, and my knee joints squeak whenever I take a step. I smell like sweat and dirt after running around and falling impulsively on the grass.
I sniff my shirt to see if the smell is bad enough to get the flies around me dying.
We walk into the parking lot, Eva ahead of me with her backpack on one of her shoulders. The bruise on my knee stings with every movement, and my whole body clamps up from the pain.
I had my bike with me and that's a problem. I can leave it in the school after locking it up without fearing about it getting stolen. But I'll still keep thinking.
Running up to where the bike stands, I check it for the last time and head towards Ezra's car. Everyone is seated waiting for me to get in. I jog down the last few steps and open the door of the back seat.
I get greeted by two grinning faces of Eva and Ster. Their eyes show a mischievous glint hinting at me at something that I am going to hate.
"Zeze, you can take the front seat. Both of us have occupied all the space in the back." Eva wiggles her eyebrows as she speaks, her all-time signature to show that she's planning something. Ster tries to suppress a laugh.
They do have a point. We all are tired and wouldn't want to sit, squished together like sacks of potatoes.
I close it and then open the passenger seat's door.
Quiet.
That's what I feel as everyone becomes dead silent.
I place my backpack between my legs and make myself comfortable on the black leather seat. After I put on my seat belt, Ezra takes that as the cue and starts the car.
He backs out of the parking lot, the street lights illuminating the dark surroundings reflect on his face.
It's a sight to behold. But, I turn my face towards Eva and ask,
"What did Aunt tell you?""What will she even say? She thought I could have won the match, but she wasn't upset." She sighs, and her face looks empty.
She feels bad knowing Aunt Eleanor didn't say anything. Eva might not show it, but she's in despair that she couldn't win.
"I think Aunt knows that you have worked hard enough and can win. And we all believe that, so don't be ashamed."
She gives me one of her sweet smiles, which makes me happy.
"You know, we all lost in the events we were participating in, so that's called matching," Ster's voice jerks up.
We have forgotten the existence of Ezra as he remains mute throughout the drive.
Ster states, as a matter of fact, "Zeya, what's exactly going on between you and Lawrence? When did you two become chummy?" She goes on without stopping, "So you like the jocks, hmmm. You never told me you have a specific type."
I shriek out and turn my body around from my seat to see Ster enjoying my vulnerability.
"What are you trying to prove from this Aster? Lawrence was just being polite, I guess. We only have physics class together and didn't even know he existed until you started daydreaming about Sheryl every day and spoke about him dreamily while turning me deaf."
