The Survivor

I pant heavily as I run for my life. If they find me, there's no chance for me to survive. I practically run through the corridors of the dark basement searching a safe place to hide.

My whole body is tired as fuck.

I'll not be able to run more and therefore it would be better for me to hide. It's dark in here. Only little rays of moonlight can make things visible.

I start feeling tired and weak with each heavy step. My legs feel like noodles as if they will crumple down any second. I stop running as I make my way towards a wall.

I rest my head on the wall. It's the only support I can get from falling down. These motherfuckers haven't given me anything to eat from morning and I have zero energy to fight with them now.

Just as I take command over my breath, my eyes rest over a wooden box lying on either side of the corner. A drop of sweat flings off the tip of my nose as I make my way towards it.

It's risky but I have no option left in this fucked up situation. The little that I see from the soft moonlight, it looks like a huge dusty box probably a fifty year old.

"Come out you bitch. I know you've been hiding somewhere. I'm going to find you," it feels like my heart skipped a beat as I hear Ed's voice.

I open the heavy lid of the box with both of my hands and hide inside it.

Something like the smell of vomit and rusty weapons fill my nose. I wonder what they stored in this box; probably organs of dead people, but that's the least I'm worried about right now. I want to get my shit out of here and find my parents as soon as possible. I hope they are safe.

My heart starts racing fast as I hear footsteps of someone running. It must be Ed. I peep through the small crack of the box. The moonlight shines through his face making him look even more evil.

He has a scar alongside his right eye which stops at his jaw and has blonde hair, giving him the typical American brat look. His chocolate brown eyes are always bloodshot as if he is on heavy dose of morphine every day. I never knew someone so cruel like him existed until a week ago when they kidnapped me.

The little that I know, Ed and his team mates belong to a racket, the racket which does drug trade. My dad being a secret Lincoln agent finds out the real men behind these sins and destroys them completely.

Lincoln is an organization that is purely made for destroying drug smuggling. My dad always kept me away from his missions.

A week ago when I did know nothing about his recent mission, Ed and his fellow mates marched inside my house. They kidnapped me and my mom and brought us here.

I haven't seen my mom and dad's face since then and I'm just fighting for my life to escape this fucked up basement.

This basement looks like a hundred year old abandoned hospital possessing a dozen of ghosts, although people like Ed are no less than demons themselves.

I let loose a shaky breath watching Ed coming closer to me. A burst of adrenaline runs through my system and sweat starts to form along my face line with each heavy step. I know I have no chance to escape now.

I'm in danger.

I curl up into a small ball and start counting as I wait for my angel of death to come. I hear his heavy footsteps coming closer and closer with each count.

1... 2... 3...

"Ed!" another man calls out, whom I assume to be Jack. "Someone informed the police," he says, disappointment showing in his calm voice.

"Goddammit, Jack, who called them?" Ed shouts, anger bursting in his hard voice. "I don't know, one of our men leaked this information. I'll find him out. But now we'll have to leave this place," Jack cries out in panic.

"No, we can't. That bitch is still alive. We'll have to kill her," Ed barks with frustration. From past one week I've been trying my best to survive. The last thing I want is to get raped and chopped in pieces so they can sell my organs to some shitty people.

"Fuck her. If the police come here, none of us would be left," Jack says, shooting a glare towards the exit.

I release a sigh, as I watch both of them leave. I wipe my tears, gathering all my strength to get up. I manage to get out of the box somehow; I know my ass would turn red if I sit few minutes more in here.

It makes a loud crack sound as I close the lid, giving chills down my spine. Taking a deep breath, I start searching for my parents. The basement is completely dark, giving me the creepy Hollywood movie vibes.

I feel as if I'm the main character in the movie struggling for my life. Well, matter of fact; actually I am. I wander in the dark, searching every corner of the basement for them.

"Mom, where are you?"

No answer.

Sweat starts to penetrate through the pores on my forehead as a familiar feeling hits me, the feeling that everyone hates the most, the feeling of losing.

"Dad? Answer me dad."

Again. No answer.

That gives me scary vibes. Something must've happened to them. I roam around the dark room searching every corner to find at least a hair of my mom. But with each passing second I get more and more disappointed.

I head towards the stairs after I find nothing in the basement. It feels so dark as if I'm inside a tunnel at 3 am.

Fuck it. Those assholes even took away my phone with them. I stomp my feet to the ground like a small kid looking around me.

All dark.

I find support of the wall as I take each step with caution. The last thing I want is to trip from these stairs and get injured. You have to be strong to survive; being weak is an invitation for demons to possess you.

The floor is lit with dark red LED lights fixed on either sides of the ceiling. Feels like a lot to explore, but once I find my parents. I walk at a snail's pace through the room. I don't have any weapon and that's my biggest drawback.

The cold Chicago breeze strikes over me, brushing my cherry red hair softly across my cheeks.

As I walk ahead with each step; suddenly I feel something soft beneath my bare foot. All of my six senses trigger in as fear and panic runs through my high blood stream.

I go stone for a solid minute before I find the courage to finally look down.

My eyes bulge with fear and a sharp noise escape my lips as I take in the sight of what's beneath my leg.
