"Mom, I'm not two anymore."

pause

"You know that right?"

another pause

"Let me remind you that I'm not your most reckless child. I mean have you met my brother?!"

And that's when my gorgeous mother lets out her loud and hearty laugh, filling me up with pure relief.

She tucks her golden brown her behind her ears and rests her hand gently on my shoulder.

"I know-" she sighs and smiles at me with her watery blue eyes,"it's just that  you're the only daughter I have Nora!"

I chuckle when a snarky comment plays in my mind.

"Mom, how many times do I have to tell you! Kyle is real. I know it is unfortunate but you do have to raise him even if he is an obvious candidate to be a girl."

She giggles and I catch a glimpse of her youthful self, smiling with delight she gives my back a gently stroke and shakes her head as she stares at the person standing behind me.

"I heard my name! Who was calling the gorgeous and oh darling brother of Nora Rose?"

Groaning inwardly and letting out a puff of air, I turn around and face the dipshit that was unfortunately here.

Luke, my beloved brother and the A-class runt of our gene.

Of course I'm only kidding myself about the runt title since that's obviously the one that puberty had so unfairly earned for me.

My brother was extremely good looking but unfortunately he was very, very, very well aware of that.

I give him one of the best false smiles possible and gesture for him to come closer.

Wiggling his eyebrows and fixing his hair (for probably the a-millionth time) he clumsily knocks his hip on the side of my 'to be shared' kitchen table, a string of curse words following his trail.

He chucks down my black beanbag that's he's meant to be placing in my room and walks towards my mother and I.

Being the twit he is, he smirks and punches me on my left shoulder as soon as he's near me.

"Luke fuck off!"

He pouts his lips playfully and crosses his arms.

"Oh dearie! Mother did you hear what your dreadful daughter just said? We should really just send her off with the hounds."

I chuckle at his mockingly high pithed tone and stand on my tippy toes to smack him on the top of his head.

"Nora I swear to god if you so much as ruffle my hair one more time I'll hurt you", he says with a scowl.

"Luke I'm almost a hundred percent sure that you're gay."

He furrows his eyebrows and his forehead creases as he starts shaking his head in denial.

I'm just kidding of course. I've had too many whining girls from our grade asking why my brother was such a player for me to actually believe that he was acted to the same sex.

Their reason for being upset was not because my brother had been with nearly half of America, it was the fact that they couldn't get him- that's what irritated me, desperate girls.

"My brother. I've been part of the protesting group for 'GAY IS OK' for two years now so if you feel like we will be disappointed - we really won't be."

He growls and I can't resist the urge to irritate him beyond his peak of tolerance.

"I. Am. Not. Gay."

He stops and points accusingly at me.

"You, just wish that I was secretly into the male gender so that you can have an excuse as to why you painted my fucking nails blue for photo day in year eight!"

I remember that day so vividly that I couldn't help but laugh. Luke had been ecstatic to go to school that day. Apparently he was planning on asking out Shirley Fredricks, the prettiest and also snobbiest girl in our school. I myself on the other hand was not so happy about this plan of action since Amy - being the true hitch she was- continuously talked shit about me ever since I'd broken her orange crayon in kindergarten.

"If you're still upset about Shitly Fredricks, trust me you weren't missing out on much since she was as clingy as a koala bear. If you'd like I could demonstrate for you?"

I leap onto his back and latch my arms around his neck. He shouts my namely loudly and I pull his hair as he tries to chuck me off his back.

"Do you ever consider trying to be a civil human being Nora? You're as strange as the girl in that wizard movie."

Did he just call me a Lunar Lovegood?

A loud and frustrated groan is what causes us to pull apart.

"Nora stop clinging onto your brother this family shall not be insest. And Luke would you stop acting like an idiot  for once. We only have an hour to lift all those boxes up the stairs and I still need to make a quick trip to the hardware store to get that delicious mauve color for your dorm Nora!"

Oh god no.

Not the mauve.

Please anything but the mauve.

"Mom can't we get that yello-"

"No, Nora I never got to have my own dorm so just appreciate I'm paying your rent."

Wow, wasn't she feeling honest today.

Wish me luck. I'll most probably need it.

Sorry for the short chapter - just testing this story out.

I'm just an aspiring writer who really (and clearly) has no clue what she's doing.

Luke in the picture attached^

*Nora and Luke are twins if you haven't guessed and they're both going to the same college but I haven't really mentioned a lot about Luke's plan because I'm hopefully going to do bonus chapters for you guys in the future.

You probably also noticed that Nora is the baby girl of the family so of course they're going to make a fuss about her.

Love you loads xoxo
