JUST WOULD LIKE TO SAY SOME THINGS BEFORE THIS STARTS: Thank you to RikossShipper for making me a cover, it's a real book now! :-) I'm sorry for taking so long to update! And it was so nice to see comments asking for more! I'm so glad you guys like my story. Thank you for reading!
My phone vibrates.
"Riker messaged you"
I had facebooked him that I still had his clothes and didn't know if I should drop them off or what.
"Aha yuo can come hang today if you want Andjustbring them with you", the message reads. His small typos were so cute.
"sure yeah, what time? 7?" I message back.
He replies immediately ("7 works see ou soon bud") and I blush. Blushing? Really? At being called "bud"? That's not even a flirty nickname. Why am I blushing!
--------------------------
After having dinner with my mom I pulled a sled from the back of our shed and started off walking toward Riker's. It was mostly flat, but on the small downhills I was able to get some speed and move fairly quickly. The sun had already set when I left, so my mom made me wear a headlamp. I felt stupid and hoped Riker wouldn't see me wearing such a silly thing on my head.
I got to Riker's a little after 7. He was playing video games, but turned the system off while I was hanging up my jacket. He was still wearing the sweatshirt he'd put on the day before after we went sledding.
"I have your sweatshirt in my, uh, backpack." I told him.
"Ok. You can leave it anywhere."
"Ok."
It was awkward. Of course it was awkward! I should've had a plan of something to do. We're both just standing here.
"Are you doing anything over break?" Riker asks me, motioning toward an empty chair to his right.
"Not really. I'm staying here, I don't really have plans or anything."
"Me either."
More silence.
"My birthday is over break, but it's just gonna be my mom and I."
"Do you like to ice skate?" Riker asks.
"I guess. I mean, it's fine. I haven't done it in a few years."
"You should ice skate for your birthday!" Riker suggests.
"Do you skate?"
"Yeah. I used to play hockey. The coach and I didn't get along, so I stopped, but I still skate sometimes."
Imagining Riker in hockey gear gives me a confusing feeling, partly because I'm not sure what hockey gear looks like and partly because it's something I'll likely never see for real. "Do you want to watch a movie or something?" I ask.
-----------------------
An hour into Obvious Child and my legs are asleep. I stand up to stretch them, and Riker looks at me, concerned. "What?" I ask.
"I was just confused what you were doing. I thought maybe you were wanting to leave because of the movie."
"No no, the movie's fine. This girl is really funny and it's a subject I've never seen in a movie. I'm staying, my legs are just asleep."
"Oh, good. I was worried you wouldn't like this movie." Riker pauses. "You can come lay on the couch with me and splay your legs out if you want."
Instead of saying yes, I sit on the couch and twist around until I'm upside down. "Much better," I laugh.
