The sun shone brightly over the Avengers Academy, now a bustling hub of activity filled with aspiring young heroes. Charlie and Nick walked through the training grounds, their hands intertwined, a comfortable warmth between them that had only deepened over the years."Can you believe it's been three years since our first mission?" Nick said, glancing at Charlie with a fond smile.
Charlie chuckled, memories flooding back. "Three years since I freaked out at Truham? Yeah, I can believe it. And now look at us—team captains, helping the next generation."
As they approached a small group of teenagers gathered in a training area, Charlie felt a surge of excitement. "Alright, everyone, listen up!" he called, stepping forward. "Today, we're going to work on controlling your powers, just like we did when we started."
The kids looked up, some nervous, some eager. Nick stood beside Charlie, beaming with pride. "And remember, you're not alone in this. We've all been where you are now, and we're here to help."
One of the teenagers, a girl with curly hair and electric blue sparks dancing at her fingertips, raised her hand. "What if I can't control it? What if I shock someone?"
Nick leaned down, his expression reassuring. "That's why we're here. Let's take it step by step. You'll learn how to harness that energy, just like Charlie did with his light."
Charlie nodded, gesturing for the girl to come forward. "First, let's practice some breathing techniques. Focus on your energy, visualize it flowing through you instead of just bursting out."
As the training session progressed, Charlie and Nick moved through the group, offering advice and encouragement. Charlie couldn't help but feel proud as he watched the kids begin to gain confidence in their abilities.
Later, as the session wrapped up, the kids gathered around Charlie and Nick, beaming with newfound excitement. "Thank you!" one boy exclaimed. "I never thought I could do that!"
"You're all doing amazing work," Charlie replied, his heart swelling. "Remember, it takes time and practice, but you're all capable of so much."
As the group dispersed, Nick turned to Charlie, a mischievous glint in his eye. "So, Captain, what's next on our agenda? More training or maybe a celebratory dinner?"
Charlie grinned, leaning closer to Nick. "How about both? We can grab dinner at that Italian place we love, and then come back to do some late-night training with the kids."
Nick laughed, the sound rich and warm. "You know me too well. And speaking of celebrations..." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box, opening it to reveal a beautiful ring. "I've been waiting for the right moment to give you this."
Charlie's breath caught in his throat. "Nick... what is this?"
"It's a promise," Nick said softly, looking into Charlie's eyes. "A promise that I'll always be by your side. Forever."
Charlie's heart raced as he looked at the ring, the memories of their journey flooding back. "Nick, I... I can't believe you..."
"We've built a life together, Charlie," Nick continued, his voice steady. "You're my partner in every way. I want to continue this adventure with you."
Tears of happiness brimmed in Charlie's eyes. "Yes! Yes, of course, I want to!"
Nick slipped the ring onto Charlie's finger, and they embraced tightly, the world around them fading away.
"Okay, you two, we can't keep the kids waiting forever!" Tori called out, stepping into view, her grin wide.
Charlie and Nick pulled apart, laughter bubbling up between them. "We'll be there in a second!" Nick shouted back, unable to wipe the smile from his face.
As they made their way back to the training area, Charlie's heart was full. They had come so far from that first day at Truham, facing challenges together and growing stronger with each moment.
And now, as they stepped forward to guide the next generation of heroes, Charlie knew they could face whatever came next—together. With Nick by his side, he felt ready for any adventure life had to offer.
"Together," Charlie said, squeezing Nick's hand.
"Always," Nick replied, beaming as they walked into their future.
