2. My Strange Twenty-Nine

Eight plates of chicken and a Coke were placed on the living room table.

"Here you go, sunbae."

Cha Yeowoon poured me a Coke in a glass filled with ice. The rest of the glasses were also filled with cola.

At Cha Yeowoon's insistence that Myeongha shouldn't be given alcohol, the menu changed to chicken and coke. I honestly wanted to try it, but Cha Yeowoon was too adamant to say anything.

"We're toast, toast."

Ahn Sia shouted a toast. I hesitated for a moment before raising my glass. I didn't want to give away that this was my first time.

I've never done this with my grandmother, of course, and I don't have many friends, so every little thing is new to me. I felt like if I was caught, I would be told, "Haven't you done anything like this before?". I often heard it at my part-time job.

A glass of Coke clinked lightly in the middle. Boom, followed by laughter.

I was wary of being recognized, but I didn't mind blending in.

"Now, let's calm down and introduce ourselves."

Swinging her chopsticks, Ahn Sia pointed to herself.

"I'm Ahn Sia, a mall CEO and top influencer. Hobbies include jogging. Athletics fan. Myeongha and I met when we were 18 because of my brother."

The chopsticks changed direction to the right. That's where Ahn Kyunghoon was sitting. He was about to pick at the chicken when he straightened up and sat down.

"I'm Ahn Kyunghoon, Myeongha, we were in the same class, and you asked me to be your friend first."

"I'm Cheon Sangwon, a junior in your school."

Before anyone could say anything, Cheon Sangwon raised his arm holding his glass.

"I was dumped by hyung when I was 18."

It's a sudden confession. He says it so casually that I can't even tell he's embarrassed. He doesn't seem like the kind of person who would have a crush on someone for 10 years, but you never know at first glance.

If one is in the same class and the rest are 18 years old, everyone sitting here is a decade older. Half of the years I've lived. I was surprised when I realized that it was 10 years.

"We met in high school, and we still keep in touch?"

"Of course we do. We're family."

Ahem. Ahn Sia puffed out her chest.

"What kind of family confesses to each other and then dumps each other, like a conga line."

Cheon Sangwon glared, but Cha Yeowoon was the only one who responded. Ahn Sia was too busy picking chicken legs to look at me.

"You don't remember any of the three of us at all, do you?"

"Not at all."

If we'd been in the same school, we might have bumped into each other, but even if we had, I wouldn't have recognized him. I didn't memorize all the kids in my class either. I didn't go to school a lot of the time because I was working, and when I did, I still managed to keep up with my classes.

I never once envisioned a future where I was sitting around eating chicken with my high school friends.
