You were there from the beginning, by his side long before his failed mission with the star plasma vessel. Long before he started slipping into the shadows of a world you couldn't see, a world you didn't even know existed. You were his—his constant, his only, or at least that's what you thought.

Lately, though, Suguru had turned colder, more distant. And it was unlike anything you'd seen before.

The door to his apartment creaked open as you stepped inside, the familiar scent of incense blending with something new, something metallic and bitter. You hugged your arms to yourself, glancing around, noticing the darkness pressing in on the walls. He used to fill the space with warmth, with soft candlelight and laughter. But now, it felt empty, hollow.

A sudden chill ran through you, your pulse picking up as you caught sight of him standing by the window, his profile shadowed, eyes fixed on something far beyond the glass. For a moment, your heart clenched in relief, grateful he was here, close enough to touch. But then, his gaze turned to you, void of the warmth it once held, and your relief was shattered.

"Suguru..." you began, hesitating as you searched his face. "I missed you."

Silence filled the air, heavy and thick. He didn't respond, didn't even move. You took a hesitant step forward, desperate to reach the man you loved, the man you'd shared your dreams with. But there was a wall between you now, one you couldn't break through, no matter how hard you tried.

"Where have you been?" you asked softly, your voice laced with an ache you couldn't hide.

He barely glanced at you, his expression unreadable. "Away. Busy."

"Busy?" you echoed, feeling a pang in your chest. "You've been gone for days, Suguru. I haven't heard from you, haven't—"

"I told you not to wait up," he cut in sharply, his tone void of any affection. "I have... other priorities now."

Other priorities. The words stung, slicing through you with a cold finality. You could feel the walls of your heart begin to crumble, every moment you'd shared, every whispered promise of forever turning to dust before you. You reached out, trying to touch him, to find even a glimmer of the man you once knew.

But he moved back, his gaze hardening as he watched you with a detached, almost clinical stare. "Let go of this, Y/N. Let go of me. You wouldn't understand."

A small, desperate laugh escaped you, bitter and pained. "Then make me understand, Suguru! You said we'd face everything together... You told me—"

"Those promises mean nothing now," he interrupted, his voice cold, unfeeling. "People like you, you monkeys... you're weak, disposable. A distraction."

The words cut through you, each syllable a fresh wound. The man you loved, the one who'd once held you so close, was now looking at you like a stranger—like you were nothing. Hot tears stung at the corners of your eyes, and you took a shaky breath, forcing yourself to keep standing, to not break in front of him.

"I love you, Suguru..." you whispered, each word a plea. "But I can't keep pretending this is okay. That you're okay."

He moved then, his hand lifting to brush your cheek, his fingers trailing down to your throat. You shivered beneath his touch, a cruel twist of familiarity blending with fear. His touch was different now—possessive, like a predator eyeing its prey. And yet, somewhere in the darkness of his gaze, you caught a glimpse of something else, something... regretful.
