The day to take off to Camp Hellhole was finally here. Everything was packed according to the list, despite my clear annoyance. Christina wouldn't stop talking about how this would be the 'experience of a lifetime' and how 'she first went to camp when she was my age'. Barf.

"Donna, hurry up! It's almost time to leave!"

I groaned, taking my bags with me down the stairs. Chewy gave me a pitiful look as he watched me come down and outside. I ruffled his hair again.

"I'll miss ya, little buddy."

I walked out to the van and put my stuff in the back.

"There you are." Mom clapped. "Oh, don't give me that look. In a few weeks time, you'll be thanking me."

Yeah, right.

Soon enough, we were on the highway to Hell.

'I wish I could have brought Chewy.'

That was my only thought. Christina was blasting Taylor Swift and singing her heart out. God, if you're listening, please kill me. Or at the very least, break the radio. Maybe I could jump out and run back home. Maybe I'll get picked up by a van full of hippies on the way there.

At least I could text my friends. For now, that is.

...
Kyle: A moment of silence for DJ Ashmore.

Ed: -link to a video playing Taps on tombone-

Donna: Real funny.

Tristian: For real, it's gonna be boring without you.

Ed: SIMP

Tristian: 😒

Donna: it's not simping if he's speaking facts

Ed: 🙄

Tristian: Thank you.

Donna: Won't be allowed to use my phone much. Boo.

Kyle: Well damn.

Tristian: I'm sure camp won't be that bad.

Donna: This is Camp Serendipity we're talking about. It is that bad.

Tristian: But you've never even gone.

Donna: Don't have to. It's bad news.

Donna: If I come out as a zombie cheerleader, shoot me.

Tristian: Mercy kill.

Kyle: On it. COD Zombies prepared me for this.

Donna: Thanks guys.

Donna: Don't know what I'd do without you.

Ed: Be a slave to the pink 😈
.....

"Hey!" Christina waved her hand in front of my face.

"What?" I huffed.

"I was saying, wouldn't it be cool if I was your camp guide?" Christina smiled annoyingly.

"I'd rather have Annie Wilkes."

"I think you're really gonna like it there." She continued. "It's got it's own lake, a tennis court, lots of trails, wide open air..."

"And clones of The Plastics." I rolled my eyes.

"Donna." Mom reprimanded.

I looked out the window as Christina went back to singing.

I grimaced at the sign that quickly passed by. Ten more miles to Moose Lake, which meant I was that much closer to camp. Was it too late to fake an illness?

As the trek continued, the reception on my phone soon became nonexistent. Probably should look into WiFi around these parts.

We made a right into the woods, where a long, winding road took us to a small residential area. Beyond that was the community center, and a few miles afterward was the camp's entrance.

Camp Serendipity was in capital letters etched into a large wooden sign.

Well, time for my funeral.

I was the last to get out of the car as Mom and Christina got our things out. It was wide and open, alright. Hardly a sound for miles save for the tweets of some birds.

"Hello, Christina!"

Christina gasped. "Miss Erling!"

The two exchanged a hug, complete with insipid giggling.

"Ready to take on the role of counselor?"

"Ready as I'll ever be!"

Yuck.

"Oh, this is my sister Donna." Christina grabbed me and showed me off to the older woman.

"Well, it's a pleasure to meet you Miss Donna Jo." She smiled. "Christina here has hold me all about you."

Great.

"Forgive her moodiness, Ms. Erling. First time being away from the boys." Mom had to humiliate me.

"Well, I'm sure those blues will go away right quick." Ms. Erling reassured her. "We've got an amazing team working here this year, and even more amazing campers!"

Just shoot me.

"Well then, why don't we get started with checking you in? You're here awful early, so you might as well."

Mom motioned for me to follow them.

These next few weeks were going to be excruciating.
