"Ah, motherfucker!" Yoongi winced in pain thrashing his body to ease the stinging sensation he felt spread like wildfire. I came home early this morning to find drops of blood on the floor which led to my brother who was sitting on a chair in the dining room, a bullet through his left shoulder and his right hand held a glass of whiskey. I was sure that I was walking into his dead body but I felt relief that it was just his shoulder.
"I need you to stay still, please," blood coddled my hands and seeped through the cracks of my fingernails. I had cleaned the wound and sterilized it before taking a pair of forceps and using it to gently pull the bullet that was caught in his flesh. A surge of blood gushed through and spilled onto his bicep. Before I would get queasy and squeamish at the sight of blood but after a while of mending my brother time and time again, it just became normal for the both of us. "Better?" It was like when I was eight and dreaming of becoming a doctor. I would practice on my broken dolls sewing them back together. It was just like this, mending and fixing the things I didn't break.
He hummed slightly feeling less pressure in his shoulder. He still occupied himself with another cup of whiskey to completely numb the pain away. After patching his shoulder up with bandages and gauze I cleaned up the rest of the mess that was left the night prior, dried blood, blood-stained towels, and burnt cigarettes. "Where were you last night?" He finally asks.
I realized that I came home a lot later than I intended to. I was supposed to stay out for a couple of hours and then head home but Jimin and I had a little too much to drink, I barely sobered up when Jimin and J.K. took me home. I sat in the backseat of their car trying to come up with an excuse to tell Yoongi about where I was and why I was only just getting home this morning. I remember walking up the steps to our shared apartment and my mind just kept coming back blank and then I saw my brother sitting in the dining room, all bloodied up. I kept my back turned to him as I washed my hands under the cold faucet.
"Get washed up so you can get the blood off," I tried to change the conversation.
"Aiko."
I turned from the sink to look at him because if we were gonna start prying each other of answers, we were gonna start with him. "Why don't you start by telling me how and why you even got shot in the first place?"
He groans rolling his eyes at me, "Kai's son of a bitch of a cousin tried stealing from me. There was a shootout and he shot me in the shoulder."
My eyes widen wondering who else was injured or worse... killed. As relentless my brother was I feared for him everyday knowing that one day there was a possibility, he wouldn't return home. "What happened to Kai's cousin..."
There was one of two ways you could end up in this lifestyle, locked up or dead. "I killed him," Yoongi said with no remorse. I shuddered at how cold and cruel he was, but it was a dog eat dog world and it was either him or my brother. "Aiko. Where were you last night?" Yoongi asked again. Since he was honest with me it was only fair that I did the same. I dreaded it because I knew I would never hear the end of it. He might as well put bars on every single window and lock me in here and throw the key away.
"I went out. I met a couple of people-"
"Did Jimin force you to go out?"
Yoongi knew that Jimin stopped by last night, "Well... I wouldn't say he forced me," he did, but it came down to my choice and at the end of the day I was the one that decided to go with him. I wanted to go with him. "But he did take me out-"
