 2007

The atmosphere in the Bai Group hotel was one of relief and camaraderie. The SCI team had just wrapped up a complex case that had tested their limits, and the weight of their latest victory hung in the air like the lingering notes of a well-played melody. They had gathered in one of the hotel's elegantly furnished lounges, a space filled with soft lighting and plush sofas that beckoned them to unwind.

Bai Yutong, the team leader, sat with his broad shoulders relaxed against the back of the sofa. His cold, piercing eyes, usually so focused and intense, softened as he observed his teammates. He wore a fitted black jacket over a crisp white shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, giving him a casual yet commanding presence. "We did good work," he said, his warm smile breaking through his typical seriousness. "Let's take a moment to appreciate that."

Zhan Zhao, seated beside him, adjusted his glasses, a small smile playing at the corners of his lips. His neat, smart-casual attire perfectly complemented his refined appearance. "You're right. We've all earned this." His calm voice, filled with reassurance, brought a sense of comfort to the group. He caught Bai Yutong's gaze and returned the affectionate nickname with a soft "Mouse," a term of endearment that made Yutong's heart swell.

Across from them, Bai Chi sat curled up on a sofa, his slender frame slightly hunched over as he immersed himself in a book. His dark, wavy hair fell softly around his face, and his gentle, almond-shaped eyes reflected a world of curiosity. "You think Zhao Zhen will be able to join us?" he asked, glancing up from the pages. The timid nature that often made him appear fragile was offset by the intelligence radiating from his bright expression.

"Of course he will," Ma Han replied, his easy smile lighting up the room. The well-built field agent leaned forward, resting his arms on his knees. "He wouldn't miss celebrating with us after a big show. Besides, he promised he'd bring his latest tricks to share!"

Zhao Hu, ever the energetic spirit, chimed in with a grin. "And he can't resist showing off! You know how he is." His playful demeanor brought a lightness to the room, making the corners of Bai Chi's mouth lift slightly, a rare moment of confidence blooming in his shy nature.

As if on cue, the door swung open, and Zhao Zhen entered, the afterglow of his performance still clinging to him like the last remnants of stage lights. He looked effortlessly charismatic, dressed in an elegant tailored outfit that highlighted his tall, lean physique. His dark hair was neatly styled, and his sharp features were framed by a confident smile that could charm anyone.

"Did someone say celebration?" he announced, his voice rich and inviting. He carried a small case, the contents of which were surely filled with magic props that had entertained so many. "I come bearing gifts!"

Bai Yutong straightened, the warmth in his expression deepening. "Zhao Zhen! We were just talking about you. You always know how to light up a room."

"Or create a few illusions," Zhan Zhao added, his tone teasing but warm. Zhao Zhen winked at him, a playful glint in his sharp eyes.

As Zhao Zhen began unpacking his tricks, the atmosphere filled with laughter and the excitement of anticipation. Bai Chi watched with a mix of admiration and wariness, recalling the magic trick that had once left him feeling vulnerable as a child. It was a lingering fear, one that he had fought hard to overcome, but even now, it made his heart race slightly.

Zhao Zhen noticed Bai Chi's quiet demeanor and approached him, leaning in with an exaggerated whisper. "Are you ready for some magic, little rabbit?" The nickname, while affectionate, made Bai Chi flinch slightly, but he tried to mask it with a light smile.

"Maybe," Bai Chi replied, his voice barely above a whisper, avoiding direct eye contact. He didn't want to admit that he still felt uneasy around Zhao Zhen, even after forgiving him for the past.

Zhao Zhen chuckled, a smooth sound that echoed through the room. "Don't worry, I promise I won't make you disappear... unless you want me to." His teasing tone was playful, yet it carried an undercurrent of sincerity.

As the evening progressed, the team shared stories, laughter, and the camaraderie that had been forged through countless investigations. Each trick Zhao Zhen performed was met with cheers and applause, but Bai Chi remained at a distance, a small but appreciative smile on his face as he observed the interactions between his teammates.

The night deepened, and the warmth of companionship enveloped them, but a subtle tension still lingered for Bai Chi. He glanced at Zhao Zhen, who was in the middle of an impressive card trick, his confidence radiating throughout the room. Bai Chi couldn't shake the feeling of being caught between admiration and caution.

Bai Yutong noticed the subtle shift in Bai Chi's mood and leaned closer, his expression protective. "Are you okay, Bai Chi?" he asked quietly, ensuring only the younger man could hear him.

Bai Chi nodded, trying to assure him. "I'm fine, Brother Yutong." He meant it, even if a part of him was still wary.

As the night wore on, laughter echoed, and thecamaraderie of the SCI team filled the hotel lounge, but deep within theintertwining emotions lay the seeds of an unexpected journey—one that wouldtest their bonds and challenge their understanding of trust, forgiveness, andthe essence of family.
