I sit along side the other professors, waiting patiently to see the much expected and anticipated arrival of Athelia Ambrose. When I was going through the roster for the new Year her name stuck out like a sore thumb, and it took everything I had not to hurl the stack of papers across the room.
Dax had one job. One. And he failed, miserably. Though, I have no time to deal with it now. Not with the rest of the teachers and students present. I roam my eyes over the crowd of students sitting at the tables, knowing full and well Dax is among them somewhere.
His demon blood runs deeply, coursing in his veins, which makes it easy to blend in when needed. He might stand a whole head and a half taller than those around him but he knows how to get a job done.
Usually.
My gaze wanders across the room to the last table on my right and there he sits inconspicuously among the other students. Though they have no clue how ancient he really is, they assume he's their age. But if they truly knew him like I do they'd be terrified. His eyes catch me watching him and it's at that moment that he tips his chin slightly. I would've missed it if I wasn't staring at him so intensely. I turn my gaze into the direction he's pointing, and just a table a way sits the infamous Athelia Ambrose and Valerie. As if the white witch can sense there are eyes on her she casts a glance in my direction, but I don't falter. My eyes stare into hers as a warning. She may be guiding Ms. Ambrose for now, but if she steps in the way we won't hesitate to take her out first.
A job is a job, and this job in particular, is very important. It goes way above my head and authority and the pay is extremely inticing. Who am I to turn away such a lovely opportunity?
