The atmosphere in the ballroom was electric, still buzzing with the aftershocks of the chaos that had erupted only moments before. As guests began to regain their composure, the laughter and chatter resumed, though a nervous undertone lingered in the air. Jay felt a mix of exhilaration and dread as he stood beside Sunghoon, who appeared completely unfazed by the recent upheaval.

“Shall we?” Sunghoon said, gesturing toward a quieter corner of the ballroom. His demeanor was as calm and collected as ever, his confidence palpable. Jay felt an inexplicable pull towards him, a dangerous curiosity that he couldn’t quite shake off.

“Where are we going?” Jay asked, trying to keep his voice steady. The earlier tension had only amplified his heartbeat, and the idea of being alone with Sunghoon sent a thrill of anticipation coursing through him.

“To a more… private setting,” Sunghoon replied, his eyes glinting with mischief. “I think it’s time we had a real conversation.”

Jay hesitated for a moment, glancing at Nari, who was still processing the chaos. She caught his eye and gave him a warning look, her concern evident. “Jay, are you sure about this?” she asked quietly, leaning closer.

“I’ll be fine,” Jay assured her, though he wasn’t entirely certain himself. There was something about Sunghoon that both terrified and fascinated him, an intoxicating mix that he couldn’t resist.

“Just be careful,” Nari urged, her expression softening as she recognized the determination in Jay’s eyes.

With one last glance at his cousin, Jay followed Sunghoon through the crowd, weaving between guests who were blissfully unaware of the darker undercurrents swirling beneath the surface. The music played on, a haunting melody that seemed to echo Jay’s tumultuous thoughts.

Sunghoon led him to a secluded room at the far end of the ballroom, away from prying eyes. The door closed behind them with a soft click, isolating them in a space filled with rich, dark wood and soft lighting that cast shadows across the walls.

Jay felt a rush of adrenaline as he stepped inside, the weight of Sunghoon’s gaze heavy upon him. “What now?” Jay asked, his voice barely a whisper.

Sunghoon leaned against the wall, arms crossed, his posture relaxed yet commanding. “Now, we talk,” he said, a playful smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “You wanted to know what it’s like to be in the shadow of a powerful family. I want to know what drives you.”

Jay swallowed hard, suddenly feeling exposed under Sunghoon’s scrutiny. “What do you mean?”

“I see potential in you,” Sunghoon replied, his tone shifting from playful to serious. “You’re not like the others in your family. You have a spark, a hunger for something more. You don’t belong in that world of suffocating expectations.”

Jay felt a rush of heat at Sunghoon’s words. “You don’t even know me,” he protested, though a part of him reveled in the attention.

“Ah, but I want to,” Sunghoon said, stepping closer, his gaze intense. “Tell me, Jay, what do you desire?”

Jay felt his heart race, caught between the urge to retreat and the overwhelming desire to step closer to Sunghoon. “I want… freedom,” he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “Freedom from my family’s expectations, from the life that was laid out for me before I was even born.”

Sunghoon’s expression softened, but the glint in his eyes remained. “Freedom comes with a price. Are you willing to pay it?”

“What do you mean?” Jay asked, confusion lacing his voice.
