Chapter 1: A New Opportunity

Sunday, March 28th

Ozpin stands outside the storefront, his back resting along the smooth surface of the wall as a cup of hot cocoa helps fight off the chills of the rather windy morning. He is bundled in his favorite sweater admiring the bustling atmosphere as people pass by with many stealing glances towards the large sign plastered on the glass beside him. He took another sip and couldn't help but smile, one that radiated more warmth than his steaming cup of cocoa, at all of the potential customers. This truly was looking up to be an interesting year for him. He had purchased his own store after a conversation he had with an old friend who was in the process of buying his own. What had been a simple catching up had deviated and the topic fell onto him making his own store. In truth, it may have started as more of a friendly bet to see who could make the more successful store but he was determined to see it through regardless of how he got there. This is a new opportunity after all.

Moments later his colleague turned business partner arrived. He couldn't help but chuckle silently at Glynda's attire, seeing her in a very sophisticated looking suit while he stands in a simple sweater and slacks. She always took things very seriously especially when it comes to professional matters. Granted, this should be a professional matter but he could never find it in himself to become too caught up on such formalities beyond what is absolutely required of him, it made things seem lighter and less stress inducing. Glynda steps forwards pulling him out of his thoughts.

"Are you absolutely sure about this?" Glynda asks, looking at Ozpin then into the store behind him. Her voice was soft yet held a worrisome undertone, and had he not known her so long he would have missed the way her words formed a silent plea begging him to change his mind about things. Though his mind was made up.

"Yes, I am" he says without a moment of hesitation.

Glynda sighs, "You never were one to abandon a vision, stubbornness is one of your best and worst traits"

"It's a new opportunity not only for me but for you too, you'll see it"

Glynda takes a spot beside him on the wall.

"So, who all have you brought onto this vision?"

"A few more colleagues such as yourself"

A pause. Followed by a deafening silence as the gears in her head were turning. Her jaw nearly hit the sidewalk as it finally registered just what he was implying.

"You don't mean..." she asked with clear fear in her tone.

Ozpin simply smiles "Yes, I do"

"Port and Oobleck" she says with another sigh "Are those two really right for this?"

"I trust them fully"

She sighs yet again "Well, if you trust them then I suppose it won't be too bad"

"Should there be any problems you will hear of them soon enough"

Glynda says nothing as Ozpin rises from his spot on the wall and moves towards the doors.

"I'll be taking my leave now, I have some important things to take care of"

"It seems last minute to be doing anything too important, opening day is tomorrow" Glynda says "what could you have possibly put off until now?"

"A smoothie shop needs its baristas"

Another pause. This one even longer. Ozpin senses a shift in temperature as it becomes too warm for his sweater and cocoa all of a sudden. Though he then detects a very familiar disturbance, the rising rage of one Glynda Goodwitch.

"You haven't even hired any employees?!" she shouts loud enough he fears the glass windows and door would shatter.

Ozpin recomposes himself and turns to face her disbelieving look.

"Not officially, but I have scheduled plenty of interviews that I must be attending soon" he opens the doors "I'm sure I will find my crew"

He heads inside before anymore can be said.

He takes a seat on a nearby table and checks his watch and sees it's just before noon. His first two interviews start soon. He does a quick check and is satisfied at finding he has all he needs. He lounges back and awaits the first potential candidates. He smiles, taking another sip from his cup. A new opportunity.
