"Jane, c'mon you don't wanna be late to class on the last week." Juliette tapped impatiently on my locker. Just because it was the last stupid week of 8th grade doesn't mean I should make an effort for anything. I gave her a look and added more things to my bag. "Seriously, ill just meet you in class okay?" She groaned as she left me alone. I sighed looking in her direction, wishing I'd done something. That's when everything fell down the f'ed hole. Kyle and his group of idiots were going to class. "Oh look who we got here! Loner Jane. Where's your only buddy huh? Stranded you too?" Kyle slammed my locker, which made me flinch. "What? You scared?" He chuckled looking back at his posse, who laughed along with him. Even Niall, who seemed the nicest of the bunch. Guess I was wrong huh? He never really said anything, was usually the quiet one, staying hidden in the back. Kyle, was the biggest jerk of course, making the stupid jokes and was the one with the most guts. "You're just lucky it's my last day. Ill be out of your hair, okay. Can you just give it a rest?" I blinked away the tears as my jaw set. "That, I can't do. Gotta leave you with something to remember me by." He smirked. I checked the clock, 30 seconds more and we would be late to class. Please let the bell ring. Please please..
When his fist was coming down to my face, I was saved my the bell. Big time. "Off to class children!" The teachers in the halls chimed. Kyle gave me the evil eye as he stalked away. All but one stayed looking forward. Niall looked back at me. I only wished I was close enough to punch him in the face. Wasn't it enough that I was already.. Dead inside?
*~The Week Before~*
It had been a normal day. Normal for me at least. Just another day that I was humiliated at school, another day I would hate. Just a basic other day on repeat. I'd gotten home later than usual that day, since, once again, I had been nearly beaten after school. I had to run all the way to my sisters school, since I was late. From there, we walked home normally. We talked about each others days, hers involving crayon wars and whatnot. Mine with just a bit of tweaks and lies. Maybe more than I thought. Nobody knew about the.. Bully situation. I mean, it wasn't something to talk about, nothing to be proud of, so why talk about it? It hurt even to think about it. I'm human too aren't I?
We got home, and, just as everyday, I made her lunch.
My parents didn't get home until evening and it was just Avery and I. Her and I washed the dishes, just one little thing my mother didn't have to worry about. We washed up after that, and watched cartoons, as she snuggled up next to me. Avery and I were fairly close, she was my best friend. My only friend besides Juliette. She played with my hair for a while, right until my parents walked through the door.
When my parents walk in, so does liveliness, so does love. They bring happiness along with them, that not anything could replace. Fun loving, adventurous.. How much more could you ask for? But they worked long hours, just to be able to put food on our plates, clothes on our bodies. A roof over our heads. And an occasional vacation, that we haven't been able to have for a while. But that didn't matter as long as we were all happy.
I remember helping my father cook dinner, as my mother kept my sister entertained by playing dolls. Him and I were able to talk about anything and everything, I asked about work. He asked about school. I felt no need to lie, so I told him I had a rough day. He told me he'd fix it up with some ice cream after dinner. Who could go wrong with ice cream?
After that, we all sat together, as a family, and ate. My mom complimented the dinner my father and I made. We laughed, talked. It might've been the happiest day of my life.
We didn't do much after that, just watched TV. At bedtime, my parents tucked, first Avery and then me in and went downstairs. Avery and I shared a room since there wasn't enough rooms in the house. But we didn't mind. We fell asleep finally, and awaited to wake up in the morning.
