???: The bus had arrived. It was blue, and kind of cheap-looking. Oh, but why does that matter?
To give you some context, I signed up for this reality TV show. Whoever wins gets $1,000,000. And as someone who has to work two jobs at minimum just to pay a singular bill, that money would really help.
I think I should introduce myself now, my name is Ellie Parker.
Ellie: To my luck, Derek and Trevor, the hosts of the show, approved of my audition. And now's the chance. The change of finally, FINALLY turning things around in my life. And no matter what, I need that money.
Ellie: I got on the bus, and looked around. From first glance, there's an old lady, a giant, a child, a weird ninja-looking person, an animal lover, a cowgirl... damn, there's a lot of personality on this bus. So that I didn't stall for time, I sat down next to a random person. I didn't really look at them, I was too focused on my own business. I heard the camp was around 10 hours away from here, so I'm going to be sitting here for a while.
Ellie: As the bus rumbled along the bumpy road, I tried to steal glances at my fellow contestants while maintaining an air of nonchalance. It was hard not to overhear snippets of conversation; excitement buzzed in the air, thick like the smell of cheap fast food.
I glanced over to the person next to me. He has been paying no attention to me. He had blue hair, with a pink and black jacket with a skull on it. He looks like he's also gotten a lot on his mind. I should probably leave him alone, I'm not the hugest fan of bothering people who have a lot going on in their head.
As the bus jolted along the uneven terrain, the chatter around me swirled like a lively dance. The animal lover, a young woman with a brown ponytail and a red coat, turned to me with a grin that lit up her face.
???: Hello there! I'm Gabby! Are you excited about the show? And I love your hair! Do you use any special products?
she said, her voice bright and cheerful, breaking through my thoughts.
Ellie: Thank you, I'm Ellie... not really, just a natural conditioner.
I shrugged, a bittersweet smile creeping onto my face.
Gabby: Aww, your name is so cute! And why did you sign up for this show?
She smiled innocently, and so did I.
Ellie: Honestly, I just want to get my life back on track. I'm tired of working two jobs just to stay afloat. That money would make a huge difference.
Gabby nodded, understanding written across her features.
Gabby: I get it. We all have our reasons, don't we?
Ellie: You're right about that...
The bus had hit a large bump, sending everyone out of their thoughts. Since Gabby was leaning really far in her seat to talk to me, she almost fell out, but hung on to the seat.
Gabby: I...think it's best if I stay at my seat for the rest of the ride, now. Bye, Ellie!!
I waved goodbye, and turned around to look outside the window. It has been getting dark now. The guy next to me was already asleep, and it's the same with a few other people as well.
I looked at the clock at the very front of the bus. It's 11:00 P.M. on the dot. Half the people are asleep, but I don't have time for that. I need to think about strategy...but to be fair, it does feel kind of weird not having to worry about oversleeping or being late to anything. And now, when I get the chance to actually be able to have a decent sleep, I choose not to. Ironic, isn't it?
My stomach made a quiet growl, and I could feel my intestines starting to jolt. I only brought a ¢0.50 granola bar... it's whatever. I'm sure we'll stop for food in the morning anyway.
I winced at the loud sound of the granola bar, hoping the loud unwrapping sound wouldn't wake anyone up. Luckily, though, it did not. I ate it slowly.
Before long, I saw that everyone was now asleep.
As I chewed on my granola bar, the faint sound of snoring filled the air. The bus bounced along the road, and I took the opportunity to lay out my thoughts, my mind racing with possibilities.
As the miles rolled by, my thoughts drifted to what lay ahead. I remembered watching reality TV shows where contestants formed friendships, only to backstab each other later on.
Ellie: I can't let that happen to me. I need to play the game smart, but I also need to remember why I'm here. It's about survival-financial survival for me. I can't let my heart get in the way...
I then spent the next few hours on strategy, and at the end, I came up with a good game plan. And for the rest of the hours, I tried to fall asleep, which ALMOST worked, but all that I achieved was resting my eyes.
The sky was now a blueish yellow, and the sun was starting to rise. A few of the contestants were starting to get awake as well.
I tapped the guy next to mes' shoulder.
Ellie: Hey, wake up. We're almost there...
???: Huh? Wha-?
He rubbed his eyes, and I could see a flash of confusion cross his face before recognition settled in.
???: Oh, right. The bus.
He straightened up, glancing around at the still-sleeping contestants and then back at me.
???: Thanks, I appreciate it.
Ellie: Sure thing.
We then went back to our distant ways. After long, the bus finally came to a stop. The bus driver, Jenson, finally spoke up.
Jenson: We're here! Everyone off!
Everyone began to get off in a single file line. The sun and air greeted us when we got off, and that's when we stopped.
...
...
Where are Derek and Trevor?
???: Dang nabbit... where are they?
The cowgirl said, raising an eyebrow.
???: Maybe they're running late?
The little girl said, making a worried expression that could make anyone go "Aw!"
Ellie: That's when suddenly, at the corner of my eye, I saw a purple can get thrown at us. Weird... I've seen this can before. I think it's... Sleeping gas!?!
In only seconds, everyone began to pass out. And just like that, my vision went black.
