Flight 509 from New York to London was supposed to be just another transatlantic journey. The plane, a Boeing 747, was full with passengers settling in, flight attendants smiling and welcoming, and the engines purring smoothly on the tarmac. As the cabin crew conducted their safety checks, one of the attendants, Amelia, noticed something strange. Seat 14B was occupied by a man she didn't recall boarding.

Amelia shrugged it off. Passengers often went unnoticed during the chaos of boarding. She noted him anyway—a man in his mid-40s, dark jacket, black cap pulled low, staring out the window with an intense gaze. She thought she caught him mumbling, but she couldn't make out the words. No matter—soon the plane would be in the air, and she would forget all about him.
