Her first thought was that she had a killer headache. Her second thought was that she was alive. She was aliveShe  was alive? How could she possibly be alive? True, she couldn’t say for sure what had caused her death among the fiery destruction of the Earth,  but she knew that something had. Panic began to set in as she realize that couldn’t sense anything around her, couldn’t hear anything, and with a jolt of shock, realized that she couldn’t see anything, even though her eyes were open. And then the voice.

“Ha, I see our  little patient has finally woken up” the voice sounded feminine, though  it could just as easily have come from a man. And the voice was everywhere and yet nowhere. The voice was inside of Kye’s head.

Trying to talk she found that speaking had also been taken from her, though her wit was still perfectly in tact. “What are you? Surely who can’t be a who?”  She smiled slightly, sass could apparently be thought.

“You’re right of course, I’m not a who, I’m everything and yet nothing.  But then again so are at the moment. I must apologize for that, we meant for the transition to be easy, but there are always glitches, no?”  The voice had a silky smoothness, immensely calming, but also very, very terrifying.  “Now I know you must have questions, and they will be answered, but now is not the time. For now you must rest” for the second  time that day, Kye felt her world fade into black.

                                                                       ------

Much later Kye woke up once again. Her mind was on instant alert. Siting  up she noticed that she could see again, she was almost able to believe that it had been a dream, all of it, even dying, when the voice broke through again.

"See it's just as promised, back to how your were . . ." a slight laugh "or rather how you should have always been. I'll be leaving you for a while, but I'm here, always here."

The voice was still in her head, but she found she could hear herself snapping her fingers again. In fact she seamed perfectly normal, expect for the fact that she surely must be dead. What other choice was there?
