Kaia marched up to the apartment that Isla and Elle shared before banging on the front door. Kaia hadn't heard from Isla in a few days since everyone left Martinsville and she was worried about her friend. When nobody answered, Kaia let out a huff and banged again.
"I'm coming!" Kaia finally heard someone's voice call out. Unfortunately, it wasn't the voice she was opening to hear. The door opened and Kaia came face to face with Elle wrapped in just a sheet. "What, Kaia?" Kaia pushed through the doorway and into the apartment. "Please come in." Elle muttered, rolling her eyes.
"Is Isla home?" Kaia asked, looking around for any sign of the other part of the trio.
"No, why?"
"I haven't heard from her. What is going on?"
"I don't know and I'm worried about her. She's never done this."
"Kai, she's an adult. She's probably over at Eckes's naked as the day she was born in his bed with him."
"She hasn't answered my texts or calls, Elle." Elle let out a sigh. "Can you call her?"
"Fine." Elle disappeared down the hallway to her room. She came back a few minutes later dressed in an oversized t-shirt with her phone in her hand.
"Put it on speaker." Elle rolled her eyes but did what Kaia said. They both listened to it ring before they heard the bubbly voice of their friend's voicemail.
"You've reached Isla! I'm sorry I can't answer you right now, but if you leave your name and number, I pinky promise I'll get back to as soon as I can! Bye!" Elle hung up without leaving a message.
"See?"
"This proves absolutely nothing, Kai. I usually don't answer when I'm naked with my boyfriend."
"But you answer the door!" Riley's voice rang through the apartment from Elle's room. Elle frowned.
"Not helping, Ri." Elle called back. "Kai, I don't know what to tell you." Kaia pulled her phone out and called Christian. Same thing happened.
"I should call her brother." Elle rolled her eyes for what seemed to be the hundredth times.
"Don't worry Connor with this. Or Nat. Isla is a grown adult. She's doesn't need to check in with us..." Elle's phone started to ring, interrupting her. It was Isla. "Isla."
"Hey, Elle! You called?" Elle immediately put her phone on speaker.
"Yeah. Listen, Kaia is right here next to me. She's been worried about you and..."
"Where the hell have you been, Isla?!" Kaia demanded. "You don't do this."
"I'm sorry, Kai. Christian and I decided to take a mini vacation after Martinsville."
"You could have told us where you were going."
"I'm sorry. We didn't tell anyone. We're back now."
"Are you coming home?"
"That's the thing. I'm going to move in with Christian."
"Excuse me? Isla, you're on the lease!" Elle exclaimed.
"And I'll still pay my half of the rent until you resign on the lease, Elle. I wouldn't do that to you." Elle let out a heavy sigh.
"Are you sure you want to move in with Christian? It's only been six months."
"I know, but I know that there isn't going to be anyone else."
"Are you absolutely sure about this?" Kaia asked.
"Yes." There was no hesitation in Isla's voice.
"Okay. So, are you up for dinner tonight?" Kaia asked.
"Are your guys up for dinner?"
"Uh, probably. Why?"
"Meet us at our usual place at 7. Is that doable?"
"I think so."
"Great! We'll see you later!" Isla hung up before either or her friends had a chance to say anything else. Elle and Kaia looked at each other before Elle spoke.
"What the hell just happened?"
"I have no clue. I guess I'm texting Sammy and telling him we're going to dinner tonight." Elle turned towards her bedroom.
"Riley?"
"Uh, yeah?" Riley's muffled voice filled the room.
"You free for dinner tonight?"
"Considering I moved things around to spend time with you while you're home..." Elle turned back to her friend.
"I guess we're meeting them for dinner."

Elle and Riley pulled into the parking lot of their usual place at few minutes before 7. Elle checked her phone for the hundredth time since the phone call with Isla ended a few hours ago.
"You okay?" Riley asked, pulling Elle back to reality.
"I'm not sure. At first I wasn't worried about Isla disappearing for a few days. She's insanely in love with Eckes, so it didn't cross my mind for it to be weird. But then thay phone call..."
"What are you thinking about?"
"I don't know. Let's head inside. I have a feeling I need to be least one drink in by the time Isla and Eckes show up." The couple got out of Riley's truck before Riley led her in. They walked straight to the bar so Elle could order a drink. Afterwards, they headed to their usual spot in the corner where they found Kaia and Sammy already sitting at their usual table.
"Needed a drink, Elle?" Kaia asked as Elle plopped down on the stool next to her.
"I have a feeling I'm going to need this." Kaia reached over and took a healthy drink from Elle's glass. "Hey."
"I'll go get another one." Riley said before disappearing back to the bar.
"What exactly is going on? Kai didn't really go into details." Sammy asked.
"We're not sure. This kind of behavior isn't like Isla."
"It's more like you, Kai." Kaia rolled her eyes. "But seriously, something is up and I hope to God she explains. That phone call was weird. She sounded way too chipper. Even for her."
"Right?! Ghosting us for days was weird too." Kaia said as Riley came back with a few more drinks.
"Figured you'll need more than one." Riley said, taking a seat next to Elle. A waitress came over and asked if they wanted to order any food while they waited. They ordered some starters before she hustled away. A few minutes later, Elle and Kaia spotted Isla bounding over towards them with Christian behind her.
"About time." Elle muttered under breath.
"Hey, guys! Did you order anything yet?" Isla said as soon as she got to the table.
"Just some apps." Riley said, taking a sip of the beer in front of him. The rest of the table nodded. In that moment, the waitress came back with their food.
"Do we want to order anything else?" The guys ordered a few burgers before she left again.
"So, how was your mini vacation?" Kaia asked, popping a fried pickle smothered in ranch into her mouth.
"Oh my God, it was amazing! It was so nice not to worry about anything. Just us." Isla turned and looked at Christian with a bright smile. He returned the favor.
"Where did you go?"
"We went to Vegas." Kaia and Elle looked at their friend's. "What?"
"What did you two do in Vegas?" Elle asked.
"Well, it all started with something that Christian had said to me when we were in Martinsville, so..." Isla looked over at Christian.
"You technically asked me." Isla laughed.
"I did. Only because my stupid brother had to open his stupid mouth."
"What is going on here?" Kaia asked.
"Well, after Christian won the race, I gave him a paper ring."
"Isla Walker, what are you saying right now?"
"I'm saying that I'm not Isla Walker anymore. I'm Isla Eckes. Christian and I went to Vegas and eloped. We're married."
