I had said it for the first time since he tried to drown me in his bathtub. He hadn't even realized I stopped saying it and only called him Alpha from that day onward.

I've broken my vow, but the situation called for it.

His gaze lingered on me, unreadable, as if he were picking apart every flicker in my expression. I held his stare, feeling my chest tighten, pleading without words.

"You want to talk to her?" he offered and I nodded immediately. "I don't want you to stay in the basement," He stated.

"Then get her out!" I burst, never breaking eye contact. My hands travelled up his chest to his shoulders and he shivered.

I was winning over him and Leander was there to witness it.

His gaze suddenly flickered to my lips. "Alright," he began, "Get her out, lock her in a room upstairs!" he said to Leander and he moved immediately to unlocked Julia's chains. He walked out of the basement with me shivering in his arms, his eyes plastered on me.

"Happy?" he asked and I nodded, looking up to him with big eyes.

"Yes, thank you!" I said politely. He smiled and it almost disarmed me for a moment.

"You're learning how to manipulate me." he grabbed my chin and kissed me softly. I wrapped my arms around his neck and tried to thank him but I coughed again, in his mouth.

He pulled away and frowned.

"Sorry." I whispered, guilt written on my face.

He reached up, brushing a strand of hair from my face, concern flickering in his eyes. He seemed to decide it was either the stale basement air, as Kiba suggested, or the shock of going from scalding water to the cold corridor so quickly. His hand settled on my forehead.

"You're feverish." He noted.

It wasn't the basement air, I've been feeling off since I he pulled that dog collar out. The bond was in pain. He carried me toward my room without letting my foot touch the ground once. As he reached the door and twisted the knob, a maid happened to pass by, and he called out to her.

"Bring her a change of clothes."

"A another uniform, alpha?" she asked glancing at me.

"Loungewear?" he suggested, his gaze dropping to mine.

I shrugged.

I don't actually care. I slept in that uniform enough times to learn to be comfortable in it.

"Get her something to sleep in," he said as he stepped into my room. I'd love to say his thoughtfulness was warming up my heart like it used but I was still feeling extremely sick. Him being nice used to send tingles down my spine and numb the pain.

It wasn't working so much anymore..

He laid me gently on my bed. It felt like the perfect moment to make a move, we were alone, he was feeling affectionate. I moved towards him before I coughed again.

His arousal was shot dead like a horse and replaced by worry. I closed my eyes, defeated and frustrated.

"Get some rest," he said before he got up. I fought the urge to call out to him to stay with me. Instead, I closed my eyes and felt myself fall back asleep. It's alright, the day wasn't over yet. Once I talk to Julia, I'll feel much more revived and ready to tackle this challenge again. I was already feeling better knowing she was alive.
