Next day :
Ava woke up to the gentle glow of the sunrise peeking through her bedroom window, painting her room with a soft, warm and golden light. The rays touched the walls, making the space feel cozy and calm. She blinked a few times, adjusting to the brightness and let out a quiet sigh as she stretched her arms over her head. Her body felt heavy with sleep, but the peaceful morning made her want to savor the moment. Slowly, she swung her legs over the side of the bed, ready to start her day.
Today marked a new chapter- her first official day as the assistant of the newly appointed CEO of Ryder industries Liam Ryder. She was excited, but a tight knot of nerves lingered in her stomach at the thought of being worked under him.
After a refreshing shower, Ava stood before the mirror, carefully running a brush through her thick, raven-black hair before gathering it into a sleek ponytail. Her brown eyes sparkled with determination as she applied a subtle coat of mascara, keeping it light and professional. Her appearance was polished and composed, exactly the image she wanted to project on such an important day.
As she finished getting ready, the sound of the doorbell echoed through the house, and she heard her mom call out from downstairs, "Ava, I'll get it!"
There was a pause, and then a familiar bubbly voice filled the entryway.
"Helloww, Darlinnggg! I'm here for breakfast!"
Ava couldn't help but chuckle as she recognized her best friend, Sophia who never missed an opportunity to join them in the mornings.
With a final look in the mirror, Ava made her way downstairs, where the smell of freshly brewed coffee and sizzling bacon filled the air, mixing with the comforting familiarity of her home. Her parents were already seated at the dining table and Sophia had taken her usual spot, chatting actively as she helped herself to a plate.
"Morning, sweetie!" her mom greeted warmly, reaching out as Ava leaned in for a quick kiss on her cheek.
"Morning, Mom. Dad. Soph!" Ava greeted them, settling into the seat next to Sophia.
Her dad, looking over his newspaper, raised an eyebrow. "Big day today, right?"
Ava poured herself a cup of coffee, stirring in just a touch of cream. "Yeah," she said, exhaling a slow breath. "Today I'll be working directly with Liam Ryder. He's officially taking over as CEO."
Her mom's expression turned curious. "That sounds like quite a responsibility. What's he like?"
Ava shot a quick glance at Sophia before choosing her words carefully. "From what I've seen, he's...intimidating, confident, and very focused. He has this presence that's really hard to ignore."
Her dad nodded thoughtfully, taking a sip of his coffee. "And on a personal level?"
Ava gave a small shrug. "I don't know him well enough Dad."
