It was another afternoon at Elmore Junior High, and you found yourself alone in the library, flipping through a book you barely remembered picking up. The library was almost always empty, a perfect spot to get away from the loud, colorful chaos that was daily life at school. Well, almost empty—except for one other visitor. Penny Fitzgerald, the golden, peanut-shaped cheerleader with a shy smile and a heart of gold, had her head down at the far table. Her cheeks were dusted pink as she studied, her long antlers peeking over the edge of her book. You'd noticed her before, of course. Penny wasn't someone you could miss. But, unlike most of the school, she wasn't constantly loud or wild. There was something comforting about her presence, and the fact that she was here, reading alone, made you smile a little to yourself. "Hey, Y/N," a voice suddenly whispered, snapping you out of your thoughts. You jolted up to see Penny smiling at you, her hazel eyes warm and bright. "Didn't mean to interrupt you, but... I saw you sitting here and thought I'd say hi." "Oh! Hi, Penny," you stammered, feeling your face heat up. "Uh, I was just... reading, I guess." Penny glanced at your book, her smile widening. "That's one of my favorites," she said. "Mind if I sit with you?" You nodded quickly, trying to play it cool. Penny settled in beside you, close enough that you could catch the faint scent of the flower she was wearing on her head today. For a moment, neither of you spoke, just flipping through pages and pretending to read. But after a while, Penny leaned closer, her voice soft. "You know... I've seen you around a lot. You always seem to find the quiet spots in this school." She laughed lightly. "I like that." "Yeah?" you said, surprised that she'd noticed. She nodded, brushing her hand behind her antler. "It's nice to know someone else likes the quieter side of things. Sometimes... I feel like I'm supposed to be this perfect, peppy cheerleader, but it's just not me all the time.". "I get that," you said, nodding. "And... I kind of like the quieter side of you, too."Penny's cheeks flushed a little as she looked at you, her smile shy and sweet. "Thanks, Y/N. It's nice to be around someone who gets it." She hesitated before adding, "Would you want to, um, maybe hang out sometime? Outside of school?" Your heart skipped a beat. "Yeah, that sounds awesome." Her smile widened, lighting up her whole face. You could barely believe your luck as she handed you her phone. "Here, put your number in. We'll figure something out."As you exchanged numbers and chatted about places you could go, you realized that this quiet moment in the library was something you'd remember for a long time. Penny Fitzgerald, with her gentle kindness and sweet smile, had found her way into your heart, and you couldn't be happier about it.
