The moment Jason opened his mouth about the gala, I felt a surge of fury bubble beneath my skin. I could barely listen to his enthusiastic plans, the way he smiled at Eva like he had any right to do so. She was mine—well, she should have been mine. But instead, there he was, casually asking her to be his date like it was the most natural thing in the world. I think I'm going to commit a murder I'm going to kill this motherfucker.

"Fine, I'll go with you," she said, her voice sweet yet laced with defiance. My heart sank as I watched the spark in her eyes when she spoke to him. It infuriated me, igniting a primal urge to claim what was mine. Why the fuck did she agree.

The tightness in my jaw was becoming unbearable as I imagined Jason leaning closer to her, whispering sweet nothings in her ear, making her laugh the way I used to. I wanted to storm up to them and rip her away, to remind her of the chemistry we shared and the moments we had almost crossed that line.

But I couldn't do that—not yet. I was still navigating this precarious position as CEO, and I couldn't afford to look like a jealous fool. My temper flared as Jason casually talked about coordinating outfits for the gala, as if that was the main point of the evening.

"Great," I said, the words almost slipping from my mouth in irritation. I had to play it cool, but inside, I was a tempest of frustration. "Just remember, she's not some trophy to flaunt, Jason."¨

As they walked away, my gaze lingered on Eva, her back turned to me. I could feel the urge to pull her close, to remind her who she belonged with, but I bit back the impulse. Instead, I shoved my hands into my pockets, forcing myself to breathe through the storm brewing inside me. I wouldn't let this slide. Not when I knew what we could have. Not when I knew I wanted her—badly.

''Alex?''Sophia's voice broke through the haze of my thoughts, and I turned to face her, attempting to mask the turmoil boiling within. "What?" I snapped, perhaps a bit too sharply. The last thing I needed was a reminder of my responsibilities when all I could think about was Eva.

"Are you okay?" she asked, concern lacing her tone. She stepped closer, her brow furrowed as if she could sense the tension radiating off me. "You seem... distracted."

"Yeah, just a lot on my plate," I replied, forcing a smile that didn't quite reach my eyes. I was irritated, not just with Jason's gall, but with myself for letting Eva get under my skin so thoroughly.

Sophia continued, "You know, you could talk to me about anything. If you're having issues with work or... well, anything else, I'm here for you." There was an earnestness in her voice that made me want to roll my eyes. I appreciated her intentions, but she didn't understand.

I couldn't shake the image of Eva laughing with Jason, the way she seemed so effortlessly at ease with him. "Thanks, but I really just need to focus on the company right now," I said, deflecting her concern.

Sophia's expression shifted slightly, disappointment flickering across her features. "Alright. Just know I'm here if you need me."

"Sure," I replied, my mind still racing. As she walked away, I couldn't help but feel like I was losing control—not just of my emotions, but of the situation with Eva. I had to find a way to get her back, and fast.
