It was a regular October day in Jujustu High. The air was crisp with pumpkin spices and the air was quite chilly. Today was October 27. 5 more days before halloween, the nights at jujustu high became quite chilling for a school who learned about curses.
The sun had fallen below the horizen line and silence had fallen over Jujutsu High. The clock in the hallway ticked loudly in the dark, an eerie reminder of the empty halls stretching out under the moonlight. It was after midnight, and most students were asleep. But for Nobara, Yuji, and Megumi, sleep had been a stranger these last few nights unlike the usual.
Nobara lay still in her bed, eyes wide open. Something was wrong tonight, and she knew it. For the past few nights, she'd been woken by an unshakable sense of dread, and tonight, it was worse than ever.
"Just my imagination," she whispered to herself, but even saying it didn't help. The room felt off, like it was... watching her.
A creak broke the silence, and Nobara tensed. She could've sworn it came from under her bed. Nobara grumbled about her being a scardy cat as thinking about a moster under her bed and she was a teen for goodness sake but then the creak came again. This time more loudly. Nobara was now tenser then ever and her heart pounding so hard she could here it in the dead silence of the night.
She slowly lifted herself up, eyes scanning the dark room. But when she leaned over the side of her bed to check beneath, all she found was darkness. Relieved but unsettled, she flopped back onto her pillow.
And then, the whispering started. Creepy and chilling whispering.
It was faint at first, a soft murmur that sent a chill up her spine. Then it grew louder, echoing with a sinister familiarity. She recognized the voice—it was her own, only twisted and distorted, as if her own words were being repeated back to her from some dark, empty place.
"Get... out... Nobara..."
Her stomach churned, a nausea born of pure, paralyzing fear. She tried to force herself to move, to turn on the light, to scream—but the words wouldn't come. She lay there, frozen, as her own voice murmured over and over again from beneath her bed.
In the dorm room next door, Yuji wasn't having any better luck. His dreams had been haunted by strange, flickering images: shadows stretching across an endless hallway, a pale face with hollow, bleeding eyes watching him from the darkness, a twisted grin that didn't seem to belong to anyone he knew. He jolted awake, gasping for breath, his heart pounding.
"It's just a dream," he told himself, reaching for the small bedside lamp. But when he turned it on, the room was still eerily dark, the light swallowed by shadows. Something didn't feel right—like a weight pressing down on him from all sides.
Then he noticed the handprints.
They were faint, smeared in what looked like dirt, tracing the shape of long, bony fingers stretching up from the bottom of the mirror to the top. His own reflection stared back at him, but something was... off. His face looked pale, too pale, and his reflection wore an expression he wasn't making. It was smiling—a wide, grotesque grin that stretched far too long, with eyes that didn't blink.
"Yuji..."
The voice was barely a whisper, but it made his skin crawl. His reflection's mouth moved, but his own was still.
"Get out... now..."
Without thinking, he backed away from the mirror, heart pounding in his chest. But even as he turned, he felt the prickling sensation of eyes boring into the back of his head.
Across the hall, Megumi was also awake, standing by his window, looking out into the darkness. He'd been on edge all night, unable to shake the feeling of being watched. A shadowy figure had been lurking just at the edge of his vision ever since sundown, slipping behind corners whenever he tried to get a good look. It was as though something was hiding in the walls, watching, waiting.
