(the cursed witch, act two)
NINA EVANS FELT LIKE SHE WAS DYING.
It was normal -Natalie told her- to feel that way. To feel as though your heart had been ripped from your chest and have your soul slowly slip from your fingertips.
Nina sighed as she watched the waves brush against the beach.
Normal.
Beneath her eyes were dark circles that hadn't left her skin in months. She didn't sleep much anymore. She couldn't. Everytime she fell asleep, all she saw was him.
"Nina!" A voice called from behind her. She didn't turn to look, only raising her hand to wave, silently acknowledging their existence.
Loud footsteps soon became closer before she felt herself being picked up from the ground and spun around madly.
"Paul!" Nina groaned, letting her body fling numbly around in his arms. "Stop."
"Not until you start laughing!" The boy replied, grinning widely as he spun her around like a mad man.
"I'll puke on you," She warned.
Paul set her down quickly. "Nope! No can do! I can only deal with a few kinds of bodily fluids and puke is not one of them–"
"What kinds can you deal with?"
He smirked down at her. "Are you a visual learner?"
Nina's lip twitched and his grin widened as his fist bumped the air above him. "Yes! I made you smile! I've been working all week on that. If I had known all I had to do was make a sex joke I would have done it days ago."
"What!? Paul did it! Oh, for fucks sake!"
"Suck it, Embry!"
Before Nina could react, Paul was being tackled by Embry into a play fight.
In between their fake boxing match, Embry glanced at the witch. "Emily's waiting for you at the house. Says she's got a fresh batch of muffins for ya!"
Nina nodded soundlessly and began to walk back through the forest she had familiarized herself with during the past three months. Natalie had been making her stay at the reservation on her days off or whenever she couldn't be home, just so she wouldn't be alone.
"Hey, Em..." The witch trailed off as she entered the Uley house, the scent of banana chocolate chip muffins filling her nose. They were her favourite. Emily had always been attentive like that, always finding out exactly what each one of them enjoyed.
"Sweetie!" A familiar voice called out before she was pulled into a warm hug by the woman. "How was school today?"
Shrugging, Nina sat down at the kitchen table, unknowingly picking at her cuticles. "It was fine. Learned about stem cells and male ejaculation."
