That afternoon, two members of the Stark Industries Board of Directors are talking in an office. One of them is Stark Industries' top lawyer. It's his office, traditionally decorated with bookcases and leather.

The other is young. "As a member of the board, I say this is insane! She's only twenty-four... No experience in leading-"

"Jared," the lawyer interrupts calmly. "She's a Stark. Pepper brought the motion to us when she stepped down earlier. And we both know what happened the last time someone who wasn't really a Stark became CEO."

There's a moment of silence as they remember the guy who later tried to kill Tony Stark.

The lawyer moves towards the office's door, and Jared the chairman breaks the silence in concern. "But... Well, you're a lawyer. What if she can't lead?"

"Tony Stark couldn't lead," retorts the lawyer, as he opens the door for both of them. "That's why he eventually put Pepper in charge."

They leave the office and walk down the hall. The lawyer stops at the door to the boardroom.

"We're still going strong after thirty-five years, and Tony's been gone twenty of them. We'll be fine," the lawyer reassures Jared.

"I hope you're right, Leo..."

The chairman sounded unconvinced.
